5.0 out of 5 stars Best Palm V Alternative, February 13, 2000
By
This review is from: Compaq Aero 1530 Ultra-Thin Pocket PC (Office Product)
I have used the Compaq Aero 1530 for about 1 month and I love it! It comes with 16MB of RAM, Voice Recorder with fast forward dial, lithium ion battery, and car charger. This product certainly beats the Palm V with more features, better resolution screen... all for a better price! My recent additions are a 40MB Compact Flash, and CalliGrapher handwriting recognizer-the built in JOT was good but this one is the Best. I plan to add the modem and other software soon. The only drawback is the screen view in low light conditions. Its excellent in moderate to bright light; in very very dim light, the back light with an optional reversibility in its LCD image can't be beat. However, lighting thats between these is hard to read. The best viewing overall is with 4 shades of gray mode for indoor lighting, outdoors in sunlight, 16 shades is good. Its best feature overall is its size, about as thin as the Palm V and weighs about the same too! This was the reason why I bought it.

5.0 out of 5 stars Just like a Palm V only better, March 2, 2000

Jim Walker (San Diego, California) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Compaq Aero 1530 Ultra-Thin Pocket PC (Office Product)
I purchased my Aero 1530 about a week ago and so far I really like it. Before I purchased the Aero, I looked at all of the Palm Pilot models and several Windows CE products. For the money, I believe the Aero 1530 is the best choice. One of the best features is the Voice Recorder. I can record a voice note while I am driving, so I don't forget to do something. The Aero syncronizes many of my MS Outlook items automatically, so I am always up to date no matter where I am (office or away). If you are a busy professional, you will love having all of your contacts, calenders and tasks with you whenever you have your Aero. It is especially great for meeting notes! The other thing that really sets the Aero apart from other Windows CE products is its size and weight. It's about the same size and weight as the Palm V and it fits nicely in your shirt pocket. The only bad thing I can say about the Aero 1530, is that it is so nice, my wife now wants one.

2.0 out of 5 stars Think twice about buying another Compaq, April 6, 2000
This review is from: Compaq Aero 1530 Ultra-Thin Pocket PC (Office Product)
I have been a loyal fan of Compaq. I owned 2 desktop presarios, one handheld and one palm size. The Aero has been very disappointing. I bought it May 1999, the internal battery broke Labor day 1999. I cannot recharge it or even turn it on. The only choice that customer service gave me was to send it back. I sent it back to Compaq, they gave me a refurbished unit swapping out my 4-month old unit. The new unit will not sync with my PC. The reason being that Windows CE recognize that it is another Aero with a different serial number. I spent more than 10 hours figuring out what to do and move file by file back to the Aero. Compaq did not restore my data and their customer support is useless. They just hang up on you when they cannot answer your question. When I try to turn the unit on in March 2000 (last week), the same thing happened again. I called customer service and they said the same thing, send it back and they will give me another refurbish unit. Now I tell them that my warranty is going to expire in June 2000, and they told me that if it happens again, it would be $200 to fix it. I have not had a problem with the handheld (C-Series) and I do not know what is wrong with the design of the Aero. I told Compaq that $500 is too much to spend on something that will only last 1 year and breaks down 3 times. I asked for a partial refund and has been denied. I will think twice now about buying another Compaq.
