Love this laptop,

This review is from: Compaq Presario 725US Notebook (Athlon-4 1600+, 256 MB RAM, 20 GB hard drive) (Personal Computers)
Bought 725US about a month ago. It is very fast, good clear display and sound. Plays DVD movies in full screen. Have only had one problem. While trying to download the Quicktime upgrade it kept shutting down. Contacted Compaq support and they sent me a fix right away. Very good support. Haven't used it on battery very much so I can't vouch for the long battery life. Love the styling too. Touchpad and scroll key also very easy to use. I'm dissappointed that this model is no longer produced but I'm sure it's replacement will be just as good.

A Little Workhorse,

This review is from: Compaq Presario 725US Notebook (Athlon-4 1600+, 256 MB RAM, 20 GB hard drive) (Personal Computers)
This is a fantastic machine for its price. I have never had a trouble with Athlon, in fact I can outright say that it is far better than the Intel chip, (1) Because it crashes less, (2) Because it is much faster! People claim that the machine overheats but I have not had any problem to date. Other plus points are the DVD-CDRW drive thrown in, and the sleek look. Batter life is about 2 hrs 30 mins. Only complaint is that it should have been equipped with a Zip drive instead of a floppy, and the memory should have been upgradeable to 512mb instead of the strange 384mb or whatever it is. Otherwise good machine and I'd recommend a buy whole-heartedly. Compaq has impressed me.

Very happy with this laptop, I did not find anything wrong with it?Played 10 games and watch 12 DVD movies, battery life last up to 4 Hours thanx to PowerNow technology! from AMD. It really save battery life! Highly recommanded!! Faster than Penium4 1.7Ghz thats why it is called 1600+

Well, where do I start? Not with my last 2 HP laptop disasters, or with my recently deceased Hitachi notebook. The Compaq is my last hope for a great notebook, and 2 weeks into it, I'm encouraged. To start with, it looks great. It's silver and sleek and svelte, at least compared to my HP (Omnibook 6000). All the Compaq's stuff is in the right place, with a 3.5" floppy drive & a PCMIA slot on one side, and the very acceptable DVD/CD-RW on the other. All the other connections (including 2 USB ports & a network interface port) are on the back, where they should be. In fact, when not connected to its home-based wires, the whole panel hides behind a plastic hinged door, a cheap but effective solution. The processor is the very capable Athalon 1.4, every bit as good as the Intel PIII mobile. Graphics are okay (a bigger graphics memory would make this a better gaming machine) and the screen is unusually sharp. The 256K RAM needs to be doubled(there is controvery re: whether it will only take 384 or 512) and the 20 Meg hard drive is just adequate, but these are not major drawbacks. This is overall a wonderful machine by a company that looks like it's here to stay.

I can not work with My Presario 700. It just freezes a lot of times during the day. According to Compaq technical service: is a problem in the model. SO it can not be solved. Before buying a presario my advice is to ask or check on Internet about the problems the model presents.I will never buy a Compaq.

The 725US DVD / CDRW Review......Read This and decide!,

I'm a active user of laptops and will give you my feedback on the Compaq 725US. The 725US compared to the 715US is almost identical with the exception of the 725US running at 1.4 ghz and the 715us running at 1.2. The only other exception (which still leaves me wondering) is the 725US max ram is 384, while the 715US is 512. Go figure the older model can take more ram than the newer? As a high performance laptop, it's excellent. Very fast, very reliable and the support through Compaq is nothing less than A+. Bottom line...Excellent product that was built around high performance and moderate price range. Others sell for a tad less, but you may settle on compromised support and the product. Lastly, Windows XP, Office XP and internet surfing are a breeze. Battery is long lasting and the display is 14.1 (wish it was 15 inch) but very crisp with no distortion. Sound is A+ (JBL) and the keyboard layout with the trackpad is a B+. The DVD plays fantastic and the CDRW had no problems burning music and files. Overall, system gets a 4 1/2 out of 5. Memory max capacity and no serial port leaves it from missing a 5. The 4 1/2 make this a definite good laptop for home or business use and with it's high multimedia functions.

I am not going to go through all the tech specs with this. I am just going to say it is very fast and WONDERFUL sound, but the graphics are not too great, but this is laptop so why do you need desktop quality graphics. IF you are looking for a laptop with superb graphics go somewhere else, but if you are looking for a great laptop at an amazing price this is the one for you!

With a little searching, I'm finding that I'm not alone with having a COMPLETE LEMON of a computer! DO NOT BUY! DO SOME RESEARCH FIRST, it's VERY easy! ;)In summary: I bought this in june 03 from compusa.com as 'refurbished' (NOTE: NEVER BUY REFURBISHED COMPUTERS!) thus it has no warranty... too bad, cause 6 months later, turns out i have the same overheating/shut off problem as others have detailed. I discovered this last wk, early Feb '04. Since then, I've spent about 6hrs talking to HP support...with nothing to show for it. ABSOLUTELY WORTHLESS!!! FINALLY, I called HP HQ in CA... and they were VERY unsympathetic! Needless to say, they say "tough sh*t" and won't drop a dime for it. I wouldn't be so pissed off if this weren't obviously a DEFECTIVE MODEL!!! (This was told to me by SeattleLaptop, who've repaired "over a dozen in the last 7 months". I'm currently collecting other similar experiences. If you have any, please share: lclaroche at hotmail dot com

My Compaq Computer Overheats and Shutsdown after 10 minutes,
This review is from: Compaq Presario 725US Notebook (Athlon-4 1600+, 256 MB RAM, 20 GB hard drive) (Personal Computers)
I will never buy another compaq notebook. This one i barely used for about 20-30 hours, and compaq will do nothing to help me other than send me to a service center. They want 100 bucks an hour just to diagnose it. Ha - never again Compaq!

First i would like to mentioned that what drew me towards a compaq notebook. Was that I had a compaq desktop running on NT and I was very Impressed because till this day I have not had a problem.
Anyways I thought I would have had the same craftsmanship with a Labtop by Compaq. It was very appealing and had nice features. This machine started to give me problems right away it kept shutting down and overheating and lagging. Like it was running Pentium I or something it took for ever to start after powering up. I should had known, what are the odds the day I purchased this labtop a customer was bringing one in for service. This is the worst investment I have ever made. And I feel that I have been ripped off and someone or all of us need to get together so that we can get new computers from Compaq at their cost. |
