Great laptop,

This review is from: Compaq Presario CQ50-110US 15-inch Laptop (2.0 GHz AMD Turion X2 RM-70 Processor, 3 GB RAM, 200 GB Hard Drive, DVD Drive, Vista Premium) (Personal Computers)
I spent a lot of time researching laptops in my price range and finally went with this one. The 3 GB of ram is fantastic and the video card, while not top of the line, is a class 3 card. The other one I was looking at, also made by HP, had a class 1 video card (the lowest rating) and cost $100 more. I am running games that are not super new, but still require a decent video card and there is no problem with them. Some of the settings are turned off or down, but the game still looks great. This one also had more hard drive space as well. There are a couple of things that I do want to mention, but they are not enough to not give it a score of 5.
The DVD drive door clicks loudly as it pops out and when you push it back in. I am used to it now, but it freaked me out a bit the first few times. And if you run it on high performance (I do since almost always plugged in) it can get very hot. Since I use a lap desk again not too bad of an issue, but just wanted to let people know. I also installed a wireless router in my place and the laptop saw it right away and connected to it with no problems. I have had no problems with Vista except one game that is 3 years old is said to have issues, but the game runs fine as far as I can tell. I also have a laptop that is owned by work. I can carry both in my shoulder bag no problem. I wouldn't want to do lots of walking with both of them, but for a short distances it is fine. A great little laptop with some nice features. (I didn't even really look at the pictures so I hadn't noticed that one had a webcam. I read all the specs to see what it was coming with.)

Aside from now Webcam - it's GREAT!,

Got this from competitor for considerably cheaper - but it's amazing! The 3Gb of Ram and dedicated NVidia 8200M video card really make it a nice, Vista-friendly laptop. Add in the card reader, wireless G, and Litescribe DVD burner, and it's hard to complain.
Stop whining about the webcam! It's $20 difference - review the laptop, folks!!!

I have to say that for the past 3 years I have begged Hubby for a laptop. Finally I saved my money and bought myself one. I went with this laptop, first the price is AMAZING and the RAM, memory is great.
I received it on Christmas Eve (yeah I was excited)and started playing with it right away. I am very happy with my purchase. It runs very fast, and I LOVE windows Vista! All it is is an updated version of windows XP. It really is neat. The laptop also does not get hot running for a long period of time. The only down side is that the battery does not last that long. I'd say 3 hours. Which is enough for a movie. But for me it's not a big deal as I just leave it plugged in anyways.

This is a nice laptop, the only caveats are battery life and brightness of the LCD while on battery. The battery lasts about 2 hours; long enough to watch an average dvd but not a long one. The is dim while on the battery. You can turn the brightness up at the cost of battery life. Other than those two things, this is a great laptop or you may consider it as a desktop replacement. On to the meat. One of the things that shocked me was the speed of this computer, it's very fast. With it's AMD x2 Turion Processor, and 200 Gig SATA drive it can handle Vista Home Premium with ease. It boots and is ready to go in less than 45 seconds, about 30 seconds faster than my Core2Quad XP desktop computer. With 3 gigs of ram this computer is ready to handle about any APP you can throw at it. It also plays what few games I play (Spore, Quake3, F.E.A.R) with relative ease, No it doesn't hit 120 frames a second, but games are very playable. Use a NOCD exe so the game isn't in the DVD drive sucking up battery while doing nothing.

This laptop was a replace for my 5 years old laptop, the laptop is fast and 3GB make it awesome. The screen is very glossy and the colors are sharp. No web cam, i don't care because my x-laptop does not have one, no firewire, my x-laptop had one but I never use it. I still need to test the battery life. The DVD clicks when you close it, but I get used on it. The laptop is not heavy nor light. It was a great deal with these specs. The only thing that I miss is my Windows XP

Died After Just 6 Months,

Bought this item when it first came out and loved it. It completely died on men and I sent it on for warranty service. Motherboard, video card and hard drive were all replaced. I went without for about 4 weeks. The notebook came with a 200gb hard drive and they replaced it with a 100gb. I've emailed HP back and forth with some call escalation and someone would call me over a week ago. What is the big deal with replacing a hard drive? The warranty service went very smoothly but, dealing with Customer Service now sucks.

Died after 5 months. Tech says either the motherboard or video/screen either way will cost more to fix than replace. This will be my last Compaq/HP purchase. My wife took pretty good care of this machine so I don't understand why it was such a pile of junk.

I bought this less than 6 months ago and the screen started to flicker when I would tilt the screen. I sent it to HP and had it fixed in about 3 days, no charge since it was under warranty. I don't think this is typical but FedEx had a lot to do with it. I've been pretty satisfied with it otherwise. It just seems a little flimsy. I hope it holds up.

I am trying to fix this laptop for some friends of mine and they have had it for over 4 years. The problem is that it takes 1 hour to even get to the login screen. It just shows a blank screen while I wait an hour for some entertainment. STAY AWAY FROM THIS COMPUTER!

This computer was great for a few years. I recommend cleaning this computer all the time. The fan is loud, the screen doesn't work correctly. Its will shake off and on. I have to hit the computer to stable the screen.
