I bought this computer as a gift for my mom when my old Laptop died. This computer is VERY fast. There is a LOT of bloatware that comes pre-installed (MS Office 2007 Trial, Norton Anti-Virus Trial, Various Games Trial, etc) and I recommend you remove these trials and install your own programs.
As a Computer Technician, I know my stuff. And I FULLY recommend this computer highly.
In short this is a good basic and inexpensive computer for that works wonders for Internet use, MS Office, etc.

I agree wholeheartedly with the reviewer *Paglia* who recommends this desktop as well. It is much lighter than my older desktop, yet it feels strong and well built. I mention this because some of the newer desktops look and feel flimsy, as if they could be blown over by a feather......not so, with this one. It doesn't get hot and bothered either.

It is extremely fast for my needs and I can open many windows without any delay in speed. It is also very quiet, one of the most quiet desktops I've ever owned. It comes pre-installed with lots of goop and all the essentials as well. I just remove the goop and add a few ingredients of my own... I don't do any *gaming* so I can't vouch for that, but there seems to be more than enough space for my needs.

The price is great and the machine is perfect. For everyday personal or business needs, this desktop is your best bet...... HAPPY COMPUTING !!!

This new machine, a Compaq CQ5110F, worked fine for about one week, after expending a lot of effort loading and updating new software, and transferring files from my old computer.
Then the machine started acting erratically (Blue Screen of Death) and it turned out to be a problem with the memory. On line searches of the "BIOME-1" error code shows that other folks have the same problem with Compaq or H-P devices so I feel this happens more often than it should. My machine was also powered through a surge suppressor.
HP wants me to ship the computer to a service center instead of just having it serviced locally. Also, I am now on my third go around with their support folks to get a shipping label and shipping box delivered. They keep promising it but nothing is delivered.
The machine seems great when it works but now I question its reliability. And H-P support is poor.

Followup November 16th:
The problem turned out to be a bad 1GB RAM module. So from the time the problem occured it took 3 phone calls (3 weeks) to get HP Service to send out a box and shipping label, at their expense. Package and ship the computer FedEx overnight at their expense, one day to fix and about 6 calendar days to return by Fedex ground, all on their nickel. I've been using it about a week and a half with no problems.

Followup December 18th: The computer has continued to work fine. No problems now.

This computer is used for e-mail, browsing the internet and storing pictures. It is great for our needs especially at under $400 on our doorstep. We didn't need another monitor so why pay for one? I had all files and pictures transfered and the computer on-line in about an hour. No problems at all.

I bought this for my 9 year old son and it is perfect for his needs. It is a major upgrade from a 8 year old emachine that just could not handle any games that a 9 year old would like. It is fast and plays basic pc video games amazingly well (TM Nations, Popcap games, Chicken Invaders, etc).

Mine works perfectly, unlike the one who labeled theirs JUNK. It does come minimally equipped, I added 2 hard drives from my PC that blew the Motherboard, and had to add another DVD too.

They only have 2 SATA connectors on the power supply, but adapters took care of that. 4 SATA data connectors on the motherboard. We have 7 puters at home so we sorta know stuff and can fix stuff.

I keep extra power supplies here so will be changing that soon the main sore spot, but it seems to be a great puter. Wish I was smart enough to have bought 4 more at the same time, no more left, I just checked.....

Apparently the person who labeled this as JUNK installed something that made their system go crazy. And if it really WAS bad to start with it would be covered under warantee!!!!!!!!!!!! I'll bet it was a kid who wrote that......

I am very pleased with this purchase. It's an amazing amount of computer for the small amount I paid for it.

I did have one hiccup with it while initializing the computer -- the hard drive wasn't connected! And while I strenuously object to calling Tech Support and talking to someone in India who is hard to understand, my call was quick, simple and the problem was resolved in a very few minutes.

I just received this computer last night and finally got it hooked up to the internet. I am very pleased with the speed and specs although a little disappointed that it is loaded w/ Vista Premium 32 bit instead of 64 bit. Had some problem connecting to the internet because the installed Norton trial software was preventing access to the web pages for some reason. Norton tech support was very helpful in assisting me. After it was uninstalled the computer worked great! Don't forget to add your own security software! I agree w/ another review regarding the optical drive. You have to push it to get it to close and it feels a little flimsy. Overall I am so happy with my purchase. It is a Consumer Report best buy. Amazon shipping very speedy with the Amazon Prime membership!

I have had no issues with the computer itself...its fast and reliable for the money. I am waiting for the HP Windows 7 update to arrive and put it to the test. Most of the bad reviews here are Vista related however HP did install it as part of the package and must be held responsible for problems with it but don't walk away from the overall good deal! Good luck with customer service. My first call was to someone outside the US and totally impossible to speak with! A second call later and I lucked out and got an excellent knowledgeable tech that resolved my printing issue, a "Vista problem".

My old PC recently died overnight, and since my budget doesn't allow for much room right now, I scoured the Internet for deals in the this price range. For the money, this PC had the most bang, and I've been very happy with the purchase. RAM, processor, and HD are all powerful for this price point. The only drawbacks are VGA-only video output (not a concern in my case) and a relatively weak onboard 3D video card (it's suitable for most business purposes and runs 3D games from a few years ago pretty well -- but is way underpowered for today's 3D games like Crysis). The system does come with a free upgrade to Windows 7 through HP, which I'm looking forward to trying.

Overall, very impressive -- I don't miss my old PC at all!
