Cheap, But Effective, August 12, 2010
This review is from: Compaq Presario CQ62-210US Laptop PC (Personal Computers)
I'm a huge fan of HP products. Not because they are a company that makes cutting edge products, but because they make affordable products that work for business minded people such as myself. I purchased this laptop for my sister after her other HP laptop (That cost me easily $800) was destroyed. I was a little skeptical about purchasing a laptop for half the price.
The laptop has some great attributes:
-Great sturdy build quality
-Aesthetically pleasing
-Hardware functions great on the Windows 7 platform
-Price
-Runs all basic word processing software with ease
The only bad things about the laptop is the new mousepad design that HP is starting to put on their laptops. The mouspad isn't accentuated in a recessed crevice, but rather its flush with the case and has the same texture as the case. Also the mouse pad only has one large rectangle button. I suppose with the adjustment of the sensitivity and some time spent getting mental memory of the notepad this can easily be conquered.
Also, HP decided to put hot keys on the left of the keyboard. While I applaud the idea of this, it unfortunately means that the keyboards home row isn't quite exactly where you would expect it to be. This will inevitably result in you opening the calculator (that's one of hot keys on the left) while trying to hit the shift key.
Overall the unit is great in quality with a few quirks here and there, but for a daily use laptop under $400 you can't beat this deal.

Almost perfect!, August 23, 2010
This review is from: Compaq Presario CQ62-210US Laptop PC (Personal Computers)
Bought this computer primarily for the price. It is well built, runs cool, comfortable keyboard, decent sound and quite running. The screen image is of decent quality (but not the greatest). The mouse pad design is slick and modern but takes some getting used of it (no borders), however the pad buttons are not very good and cheap to the touch. Also there is no webcam (understandable considering the price), but it is also missing a card reader which I didn't know about it until I looked for it.The dvd player is also flimsy and delicate, just treat it with care. Considering what I paid for it ($350 after rebates) I guess I can't complain. Overall: GOOD!

Has been great despite one issue, November 12, 2010
This review is from: Compaq Presario CQ62-210US Laptop PC (Personal Computers)
I purchased this laptop for my niece for her birthday. She is 11 and does not do anything too extensive in terms of applications so the hard drive and memory on this laptop are more than adequately meet her needs. Other than a few games she primarily uses it for homework (e.g., Word, PowerPoint, Excel). She has been using the laptop since July 2010, she really likes it and for her "simple" purposes it has worked perfectly. The size is perfect for her and while she normally keeps it on her desk it is light enough that she also brings it on long car rides to do homework or to watch movies. For the price/value it has been great and I do not think I would trust her with a laptop that cost much more than the price of this one.
Today she experienced the first problem with the laptop. While using Word it started "back slashing" for no apparent reason and it will not stop. Looking at the key board it does not appears as though the key is depressed at all and we even attempted to raise the key. Nothing has stopped the back slashing. We called Technical Support and they are shipping us a box so we can return it to HP and they say it is a 8 to 10 day turnaround to get the computer back. I do understand that with all computers (value and high end) there can be problems so for now I will continue to rate the computer based on our overall experience and not just on the key board issue we now have. What is important to me is that they are honoring their warranty with one call (because we all know sometimes it takes 2 or more calls to get a company to accept a return and that is very frustrating) and providing a free method to return it for repair. I will update this one we have it back.
UPDATE: WE RECEIVED THE LAPTOP BACK AND EVERYTHING IS FINE. THE REPAIR WAS PAINLESS AND FREE. HP STOOD BEHIND THEIR PRODUCT, FIXED IT AND RETURNED IT WITHIN 2 WEEKS.
