Amazon.com Product Description

Take your productivity to the next level wherever you roam with the Compaq Presario R4025US notebook PC. With a powerful AMD Athlon 64-bit processor and large 15.4-inch screen, you'll be able to effortlessly multitask. It also features a strong ATI Radeon Xpress video/graphics card with 128 MB of dedicated video RAM--great for multimedia presentations. It has a Firewire port for connecting an iPod and video camcorders, dual-layer DVD-/+RW drive (which also burns CDs)--wlhich can burn up to 8.5 GB of data to compatible DVDs--and a multi-format memory card reader. The R4010US also offers a large 80 GB hard drive, 1 GB of installed RAM, and 54g wireless connectivity with 125 HSM/SpeedBooster support.

The Basics

  • Hard Drive: The 80 GB hard drive (4200 RPM) is a bit above average in size for notebook PCs, providing more than enough capacity for storing documents, digital media files, and productivity software.
  • Processor: AMD's Athlon 64 3200+ processor is built for tomorrow's 64-bit applications, which will require a processor with significant power. This 2.0 GHz processor offers a system bus with speeds up to 2000 MHz and 512 KB L2 cache. (An L2, or secondary, cache temporarily stores data; and a larger L2 cache can help speed up your system's performance.) It includes such AMD features as HyperTransport Technology (which increases the communication between integrated circuits) and Cool'n'Quiet Technology that conserves power while also keeping the notebook's decibels to a minimum.
  • Memory: The 1 GB of built-in memory (2 x 512 MB, DDR SDRAM) is well suited to today's demanding multimedia and business productivity software, and it features a faster than average speed (333 MHz). It has two memory slots in total, with a maximum memory expansion up to 2 GB (2 x 1024 MB).
  • CD/DVD Drive: Offering the latest in DVD writing technology, the V2220US multiformat DVD/CD drive is compatible with both DVD+ and DVD- disc formats as well as dual-layer DVD+R discs, which can store up to 8.5 GB of data.
  • Keyboard & Mouse: This notebook has a 101-key keyboard and a touchpad with on/off button and dedicated vertical/horizontal Scroll Up/Down pad.
Screen, Graphcs and Sound
The high-definition 15.4-inch WXGA BrightView widescreen display--with 1280 x 800-pixel resolution--has 18 percent more screen information than a 15-inch XGA, providing visibility of two applications side by side for greater productivity and multi-tasking. The BrightView feature provides a 20 percent brighter screen for better definition and 33 percent wider viewing angle for more accurate, off-center viewing when sharing files files. Video and graphics are powered by the ATI Radeon Xpress 200M, which provides 128 MB of dedicated video memory. It also has HP Premium audio and internal stereo speakers.

Connectivity and Expansion Slots
The R4025US has an integrated 54g wireless LAN that's fully compatible with 802.11b/g wireless networks. The 125 HSM/SpeedBooster support will enable it to be ready for tomorrow's 125 Mbps wireless LANs. It also includes a next-generation ExpressCard 54/34 card slot, which lets you take advantage of thinner, faster, and lighter expansion cards for even more advanced wireless, networking, storage, and security features. You get a very good offering of connectivity options, which does include super-fast USB 2.0 and Firewire:

  • 4 USB 2.0 ports for connecting a wide range of peripherals--from digital cameras to MP3 players
  • 1 FireWire (also known as IEEE 1394 or i.Link) port for connecting digital video camcorders and other peripherals
  • 1 VGA monitor port
  • 1 S-Video port for connecting to a TV
  • 1 PCMCIA (or PC Card) slot (Type I/II, 32-bit)
  • 1 headphone jack and 1 microphone jack
  • 1 Expansion Port 2 connector
  • 6-in-1 Digital Media Reader for Secure Digital cards, MultiMedia cards, Memory Sticks, Memory Stick Pro, SmartMedia, and XD Picture Cards
It also has an integrated 56K modem (V.90) and an RJ-45 LAN network port (for a 10/100 Ethernet connection to networks and DSL/cable modems).

Preloaded System and Software
This system comes with the Windows XP Home Edition Service Pack 2 operating system with Advanced Security Technologies, which helps to reduce unwanted downloads and pop-ups while surfing the Web. 4.0 out of 5 stars Great Buy, July 18, 2005
This review is from: Compaq Presario R4025US 15.4" Laptop (AMD Athlon 64 processor 3200+, 1 GB RAM, 80 GB Hard Drive, DVD/CD-RW Drive) (Personal Computers)
To start off I am very pleased with this computer. It has many pros and only a few cons. First off The design is a very modern in design. The screen is HD. (however, in comparison with the Sony versions it is in my opinion inferior.) The Hard drive is large enough to hold a lot of Data. The battery lasts for about one hour and forty five minutes. It has a Slot that fits pretty much any kind of flash card that you might have. I have a Sony SD flash card and it works just fine with that. The video card is dedicated so it does not draw from the systems memory. I have tried many games for example Madden 2005 and the newest rainbow six and they run very smooth. I think that this computer is a replacement desktop. Meaning that if you plan on taking it every where you go it might become somewhat of a burden. All and all I love it and I got every thing out of a computer for a very good price.

4.0 out of 5 stars For the guy who said this computer sucks, February 12, 2006
This review is from: Compaq Presario R4025US 15.4" Laptop (AMD Athlon 64 processor 3200+, 1 GB RAM, 80 GB Hard Drive, DVD/CD-RW Drive) (Personal Computers)
Maybe you're new to laptops, so here are a few facts.
Sadly enough almost all laptops are tailored for Windows, that means that if you install anything but windows, well you'll have a poor performance.
Also very important, the hard drive that is included with the computer is a 4200rpm HD which is QUITE slow for any standard.
When the OS is paging or accessing the HD this speed is critical.
I don't know about your computer but mine had 512mb of memory, and let's say the full 2Gb could really boost performance.
I am a software engineer and I have found this laptop as a decent desktop replacement.
If you use it with windowsXP 64, a fast HD and 1GB or more you'll see what I am talking about.

3.0 out of 5 stars Average laptop for a good price, March 27, 2006

(REAL NAME)
This review is from: Compaq Presario R4025US 15.4" Laptop (AMD Athlon 64 processor 3200+, 1 GB RAM, 80 GB Hard Drive, DVD/CD-RW Drive) (Personal Computers)
I bought my laptop in August of 2004 and it is now March of 2006. I actually bought the R3000 but I hope this review can help others buying laptops (...). I have no idea if HP changed the computer structurally but HP did upgrade the hard drive memory and other smaller features. Buying a laptop was difficult and it is not a task I am looking forward to doing again. It is impossible to balance price and performance along with all the other features in the lower price range that determine weight and battery power. If a buyer wanted the higher end laptop, then there would be less compromise. But then the buyer would probably not be looking at a Presario. After about six months, my touchpad stopped working and my experience with customer service was hellish trying to convince them that the touchpad was in fact a hardware problem. I finally did send the laptop in after numerous hours berating the Indian taskforce. But I have never had a pleasant experience with laptop customer service when it is difficult to prove a hardware problem rather than a software problem. Also, after about a year and a half, my dvd burner stopped burning. I hope HP fixed the DVD setup because its placement is very vulnerable to wear and tear. It was not fun either convincing the service team that my burner did not burner. But, honestly, take the customer service consideration out of the picture because customer service SUCKS at all computer companies. Get the 3 year warranty if you plan on keeping this laptop for more than year. Seriously. Do not mess around. (...). The laptop is very heavy and buy the better battery because the lowerpriced battery can barely sustain the computer for an hour. In fact, if you plan on taking long plane trips and want to use the laptop, this is not the laptop for you although I believe some planes have power outlets now. Do not buy the windows office program. RIPOFF. Get the open source version or scam it from a friend. Basically, if you need perfection in a laptop, invest more money into your laptop. If you can tolerate a good heavy computer with flaws, this is not a bad purchase. But honestly, at this price range, mediocrity is what you will get. Don't expect miracles.
