I spent about two weeks before the exam reading, annotating, and taking the practice exams in this book. The various historical examples provided throughout this book gave me (and will give you) an immense edge on the free response questions. I can say with certainty this book is why I was able to get a five.

I recommend this book for anyone taking an AP Comparative course or self studying like I did. While I don't recommend waiting until two weeks before the exam to start reading this book, it definitely was a life (and score) saver for me.

This book is absolutely the most readable review/textbook I have ever used. After taking 9 AP tests and running through 4 others just for AP Comparative Government, I've come to the conclusion that this book is probably the best out there.

Here's why:

1. ETHEL WOOD, THE AUTHOR, USED TO WRITE THE AP COMPARATIVE TEST. For every year she's written the test, she's managed to cover everything and I mean EVERYTHING that appeared on the exam. If you read the book through once you WILL GET A 5.

2. The book is readable. The book doesn't try to be overly casual like Princeton Review's book. It just reads really naturally without page long convoluted sentences. There's humor in it too if you're the intellectual type. It flows really naturally and the pages just zip by. I can't stress this enough.

3. THERE ARE USEFUL QUESTIONS AT THE END OF EACH CHAPTER. Its a bit ridiculous actually. These questions are unbelievably similar to what appears on the actual AP test. They also prepare you for in class tests as well.

Overall, this book strikes the perfect balance between being a review book and being an actual textbook. If your teacher isn't using this to teach out of, then use it as a review book. IT WILL NOT FAIL YOU. Also, Ethel isn't screwing really anyone by printing new editions. AP comparative government focuses largely on modern politics and as such, it's necessary to print new editions ever now and again. This isn't like math where the problems are just rearranged and a CD is revamped. Buying the new edition is VITAL. If you read through this book, YOU WILL BE FINE FOR THE AP EXAM.

I got a 5 on the AP Exam!

The book provides all of the important information that you will need to know in order to know for the exam. It is essentially a textbook (but doesn't read like one) if you are going to teach the course to yourself. It provides practice exams throughout the book.

This book has really helped me out for my classes and is really up to date for the lessons. I don't know what else to say that it has not been mentioned! This is an great book for getting a high score both in class tests and the AP exam. (This is not for AP US Government though).

This book is the best book. I scored a 5 on the 2012 test with this book (I had the 4th and 5th edition, for the questions). Not only will you score well on the test, but you will actually learn something about the world and how it functions politically and socially.

The one question I had before I started Self Studying (I did not have the class), was whether or not I can handle it. This course covers more information than almost any other AP exam. Anyone can do it if you are disciplined. Define all the terms, take tests, practice writing, etc. Make sure you know the first unit (all of the basic government terms), its the foundation for the course (all of the free response on the test is definitions).

If you are in Model UN, you will be in good shape for the test, and vice versa. But Model UN is not required to do well. This book is.

Thank You Ethel Wood!!!!

Great preparation for the AP exam. I didn't have a textbook for this course; I only read this book for the semester prior to the AP exam and got a 5 on the exam. The sections are clearly outlined and make reading the text easy. There are several useful historical examples that come in handy on the free-response questions. The practice tests in the back help a lot too.

Believe me and the other reviewer when we say that this book will get you a 5 (if you put in the time to read it, word-for-word, and take notes!)

This book is great, and very informative. Since it's not written by a major publisher it does have a few small spelling errors but you hardly notice them and they don't take away from this extremely useful book.
