5.0 out of 5 stars A surprisingly rich setting, July 15, 2008

This review is from: The Compass of Celestial Directions, Vol. 4: The Underworld- A Setting Book For Exalted, 2nd Edition (v. 4) (Paperback)
This entry in the Compass of Celestial Directions series follows its forebears in presenting a supernatural setting within (or in this case, beneath) Exalted's Creation. In this book there are stats for various sorts of ghosts, both benign and malign, more info on the Deathlords, the dual monarchy of Stygia, and lots of interesting locales, including major shadowlands. It's also got the most info on Sijan that we've seen yet in this edition. As a bonus, there's some discussion of what happened to the more heroic ghosts of the slain Solars (and how they're working to redeem themselves in death).

The really impressive thing about this book is that it manages to present the Underworld as a full and interesting setting for an entire game, not just as an exotic locale for an excursion or two. The dead have their own kingdoms and politics apart from the machinations of the Deathlords (or in many cases directly threatened by them), and they are just as in need of heroes as are the denizens of the living world. It's worth mentioning that the majority of this material has never been seen before. There's plenty to do for Abyssals, heroic ghosts, or even other Exalted characters who decide to explore the dark secret of the Underworld.

4.0 out of 5 stars Excellent sourcebook for the Hallowed Dead, December 24, 2008
This review is from: The Compass of Celestial Directions, Vol. 4: The Underworld- A Setting Book For Exalted, 2nd Edition (v. 4) (Paperback)
When I bought Exalted with the new Second Edition I knew this book was a sure thing to be released soon from White Wolf. And it is worth every cent and every second I had to wait. Since it is just a book that has to say a lof ot all the world of the dead I think it is great but it could be a little longer or even more informative.

It has a lot of stuff for delvers of the Labyrynth as well as information of the districts of Stygia, and several places of itnerest in the whole underworld of the most important cities of Creation. I love how they describe the tombs of the Neverborn and some names of the Primordials emerge in this book. Woaw, love the names and roles these monsters had in the First Age.

And yes it is one book but has several good ideas to expand upon its bones and has a lot of stuff to write cool adventures in this bleak and marvelous world that is the Underworld.
