I received "The Compassion Box" as a gift, not knowing at all what to expect.

The first thing I did was pop in the CD and was immediately intrigued by Pema Chodron's voice and her message. She explains the principles of Tonglen meditation very simply so that if you have this product, you can begin practicing immediately.

The Lojong cards are excellent supports as well, keeping you centered on a different principle or technique every day.

As a Non-Buddhist, I found this product exceptionally valuable to teach me how to begin implementing this beautiful practice into my life in a way which will have a significant impact on my being.

The essence of Buddhism, really, is practice...as opposed to belief in a doctrine. This package is such a beautifully done description of and means to the fundamental practice of compassion. It is truly one of my most treasured possessions.

If Pandora's Box opened the world to alot of the ills of negative behavior then this lovely collection from Pema Chodron is the beautiful opposite! Compassion is one of the hardest abilities in a world of ambition, greed, and competition. Centuries of buddhist wisdom are encapsulated in this wonder tool. Use this to create a habit and pattern of compassion for yourself and others. Buddha once said that all that we are begins with our thoughts, and with our thoughts we make the world. Used daily and in the moments when compassion is most called for ... the compassion box allows us to re-create our inner world ... and see the fruits of this change in our outer reality. People, place, situations, and events do not change. We can only change ourselves, our perceptions, and interact from a place of compassion and self-love. Then ... our buddha nature reaps rewards. Make compassion work for you!

I enjoy this gift every single day, as I choose a new message to wonder about, have gratitude and compassion for......... The author has a wonderful way of inviting you to reach inside yourself...be gentle with yourself....and encourage the best of you.....regardless of your "religion"........these teachings of true compassion are good for every single soul on this earth.

Pema Chodron is such an inspiration. I switch cards every moring before I meditate, or my 7 year old daughter likes doing it the night before and trying to read it out loud. The mini book is great too. It goes into each slogan more fully, then on her commentaries on the backs of the cards. Sometimes if I do not remember the slogan from the day I might recall a past one. I was also impressed with how down to Earth she is and she makes the practice of tonglen very understandable even for someone who is fairly new at this.

A wonderful collection! All of the Lojong slogans on individual index cards, a cd of Pema explaining the practice of Tonglen, and her book discussing both. I love it and refer to it everyday.

I bought this wonderful composition as an aid to Tong Len meditation; the message of Pema Chodron is wonderful, however, the meditation explanations are overly detailed and repetitive. In this case, less words would be more.

I ordered The Compassion Box from the US because it isn't sold here in the UK, and I was delighted to find a used copy described as being in very good condition. When it arrived the box was obviously worn, torn, and the book was missing (the box was described as complete).

So although I would give 5/5 for the product itself - the cards are beautiful and the commentary by Pema Chodron excellent - this particular item lost two stars for the seller's inaccurate description. It's very unfair not only to customers, but to other traders who give accurate descriptions. I have given the seller feedback so hopefully their assessments will become more accurate in future.

Don't let this put you off using the Marketplace though - I generally find that traders make a very fair assessment and provide an excellent service.

The Compassion Box itself is thought-provoking and supports my Buddhist practice - I highly recommend it for anyone interested in lojong.

This is the worst purchase I have made yet! The author is horrible and the meditation cd provided is annoying and poorly made. The book wasn't included either. The cards are decent.
