This review is from: Competition Car Data Logging: A Practical Handbook 2nd Edition (Hardcover)
If you want to understand how data logging can be applied to your motorsport activities, rather than how data loggers work, then this is a very useful text. If you want to know how different sensors function, this is not the book for you.
McBeath starts with the basics of analysis and builds your technique in a manner which should apply to most systems (It worked for my Haltech data as well as dedicated units). I think there is either a good teacher hiding inside the author or he had a excellent assistant; I found the text very easy to follow, and he has turned what could be a very dry topic into an interesting read, even for casual browsing. The last section of book makes for interesting reading as to how the "big boys" from touring cars to formula 1 make use of fundamentally the same technology, albeit with better budgets than you and I. That said, there is still things to learn from these discussions. The book is well illustrated both with diagrams and sometimes light-hearted photos to make a point. |
