1.0 out of 5 stars I'd like to return this book, October 7, 2007
This review is from: Competition Car Electrics: A Practical Handbook (Hardcover)
My apologies to the author & publisher, but IMHO and without prejudice, I believe that unfortunately, this book is not what a car enthusiast who needs practical information needs. Maybe what the other reviewer said is true, it could only be recommended to someone who knows absolutely nothing about cars.

Information about circuit breakers is repeated a few times in different chapters. Some analogies run too long and aren't necessary. There is basically nothing in this book that you can't find in magazines or other books, but maybe someone who has zero experience with the electrical side of automobiles MAY find this interesting.

A major disappointment was that the price is high, but the information inside was basically stuff you could learn by reading magazines, forums, automotive handbooks and kit car books. For me it was a poor return on investment and I'd like to return it and get my money back.

1.0 out of 5 stars A Practical Handbook .. You'd thought they meant Picturebook., November 9, 2008

This review is from: Competition Car Electrics: A Practical Handbook (Hardcover)
Well to start with this book is in no way technical "How To" book, which is what I thought it was.. It is a book that talks about various ways to set up your competition vehicle, but it does not tell you how to do it.. The book has a lot of pointless pictures of race cars most of which have nothing to do with anything. I guess they thought that a cool picture of a rally car, circuit car, etc.. would be appropriate here and there. Mostly a bunch of bright ideas or pictures of cool creations with no explanation of how to implement them into your project.. Oh and yes it is VERY BASIC when it comes to electrical teachings.. Pathetic actually.. I guess the author of the book thought that it would be a great idea to show a race car cockpit that looked like something from jet fighter, and point out to the reader that "It's important to clearly label all switches as in this race car" Completely pointless rhetoric.. If your looking for a book that you can learn something from, look elsewhere.

This book was surprisingly uninformative. I would only recommend this to someone who has know idea about anything electrically related to cars.

3.0 out of 5 stars Good, but not great, July 3, 2011

This review is from: Competition Car Electrics: A Practical Handbook (Hardcover)
This book is big on photos of what the work will look like, but frankly falls short on the how-to. While it is an interesting and well-written book, it falls short of the aspiration to be "A Practical Guide".

1.0 out of 5 stars Weakest of the "Competition Car" series, November 25, 2010
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Competition Car Electrics: A Practical Handbook (Hardcover)
This book was severely disappointing after reading the rest of the Competition Car Handbooks. The Competition Car Suspension: A Practical Handbook and Competition Car Aerodynamics: A Practical Handbook versions stay next to my computer, the Competition Car Composites: A Practical Guide (Haynes competition car series) book is in my workshop, and although out-dated, the first version of Competition Car Data Logging: A Practical Handbook 2nd Edition was an interesting read. Electrics is really just a picture book. And from experience, a lot of the pictures show practices that may look neat, but are not the proper way to wire a car. If you're looking for an advanced book on car electronics or an actual how-to manual, look somewhere else.
