5.0 out of 5 stars "Competitive Leadership" - Coach-Brian Billick, May 25, 2001
By
Brad Engel (Kent Island High School-Maryland) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Competitive Leadership: Twelve Principles for Success (Hardcover)
After reading "Competitive Leadership", I have a better understanding of the coach of the World Champion Baltimore Ravens and how he created a program for success and a foundation for leadership. I think he is the real story behind the glory that he has brought to the state of Maryland. I teach Leadership Studies at Kent Island High School and have found his book to be most useful.

Brian Billick is a man of profound moral significance who makes those around him more sucessful and allows each of his players and his staff reach their full potential with a combination of respect and a vast knowledge of how the game of football should be played. He is a modest man who drives others to success and the only time you ever hear him in front of the microphone it is to protect the players he cherishes. The book concentrates on the 12 components of his leadership style. From self-knowledge to self-confidence, Billick lays out a plan of action for all leaders to follow.

The lessons and advice Billick dispenses come from years of understanding the game and since it is a game of people, understanding the human dynamics that makes us all individuals."Competitive Leadership" is a book that can be read by CEO, athlete, supervisor, or anyone who aspires to become a leader. Coach Billick should be proud of this book and what he stands for.

5.0 out of 5 stars The Real Deal, July 5, 2001
This review is from: Competitive Leadership: Twelve Principles for Success (Hardcover)
I don't normally take the time to review a book, because the time I spend reviewing could be spent in better ways (like reading another book). But this needed to come out. Brian Billick is a mastermind. I know that it's tempting for a business professional or leader of any other sort to dismiss this book because of Brian Billicks position. PLEASE do not. While we don't all coach professional football, we all have the same responsibility to get the best from our players. It's not about football!!! It's about influence. Discipline. Integrity. Respect. Understanding what drives people, and moving towards a common goal. As someone who's read, and continues to read, leadership and business books as a passion and a way of life, I can tell you that this book sits at the very top of my shelf.

4.0 out of 5 stars What's up with Competitive Leadership?, January 10, 2002
A Kid's Review
This review is from: Competitive Leadership: Twelve Principles for Success (Hardcover)
I originally thought this book was about football. I was wrong. This book is about leadership skills for business. It will help you succeed and become a better leader. Brian Billick is an intelligent author and an outstanding football coach. Billick is the only coach to lead the Baltimore Ravens to a play-off game, not to mention a Super Bowl. 2002 is his second consecutive year to reach the play-offs. The vocabulary is impressive. Enjoy your reading of Competitive Leadership- Twelve Principles for Success.
