This compilation of all the Big Dog and Little Dog stories is terrific! If you have children between the ages of 1 and 5 who like dogs, this is a sure-fire hit. There are few books that can hold the attention of both my 4 year old daughter and my 1 year old son, but Pilkey's book keeps both of them interested and laughing at the amusing and sweet antics of the two silly pets. The illustrations are adorable. The text is simple enough for toddlers to understand, but still interesting for pre-schoolers. My 4 year old is beginning to say the words along with me, which is good preparation for reading. The type-set is large enough that beginning readers could read this, so I intend to keep this book around for when my children start to read on their own. This compilation is a very good value, if you consider the price of buying the 5 Big Dog and Little Dog books separately. I highly recommend this as a holiday gift for any toddlers on your list.

Dav Pilkey departs from his wonderfully silly and scatalogically inclined "Captain Underpants" books in the Big Dog and Little Dog series, but displays his usual clever humor in this colorful book for toddlers. It's a chapter book with five brief stories (similar to the "George and Martha" books), in which a very big dog a and very small dog share adventures, many of which get them in trouble with their owner. For example, they have nothing to play with, so they devour a couch; they mistake a skunk for a cat, and arrive home, all stinky, just in time to ruin a party; they play in the mud and spray the owner with mud and water (they take a bath, and "are clean and dry. Now they want to go for another walk").

The color pictures are bright and playful, and Pilkey has interesting compositions: The focus is always on the dogs-sometimes the owner is only partially shown. There is lots of action, and Pilkey uses solid backgrounds painted with acrylics as well as accent patterns to create interest and texture. The organization is superb as well; two simple two simple stories that show the two differently-sized dogs showing canine compassion and affection for each other bracket the three mischievous stories. These are warm and touching, and perhaps a message for young siblings that shared needs and feelings can overcome differences. As others have noted, Pilkey created his own font-"Big Dog," which is fun to look at, and yet another signature Pilkey touch. Highly recommended!

The Complete Adventures of Big Dog and Little Dog is 5 books in one! Simpler stories (think no Pilkey puns) than other Dav P. books, but just as much fun. Big Dog and Little Dog go for a muddy walk, are sprayed by a skunk, and rip up the sofa. The acrylic and India ink illustrations are straight forward, but clever. I especially like the font that Pilkey created for this book, which is appropriately called "Big Dog." Karen Woodworth-Roman

These stories are a great length and space for little ones. The cadence makes them a fun read for parents, teachers or other loved ones to share with the little ones. The illustrations are simple but endearing. The structure of the book as a lot of little short stories -- each with a definite ending yet feeding into the next story -- works really well. As an adult who read this without children present I found it completely engaging and endearing. This is also a good book for early readers to practice their new skill since there is a good mix of repetition and new words.

My daughter loves this book. She is 2 years old. I checked out one of the stories at the library and she loved it so I looked into buying it. This book has the whole collection of stories which is a great deal. It's simple but she loves it. I recommend this for young toddlers.

I love kids books that make me laugh. This is definitely one of them. Continually keeps me, the 6 year old and the 3 year old entertained. All of us laugh along. My 6 year old now uses it as a "reader" and reads it to her sister. Too cute!!

A great story for preschool age and kindergarten age. We could read over and over again in our house!

I love this book. Our little boy loves animals and we have two dogs. He loves following the adventures of big dog and little dog. We read it all the time and he can almost "read it" (recite for memory) most of the stories by himself. He loves to laugh at the skunk, playing in the mud and loves to help big dog find a sweater. I've gotten another for my sister's boy.

She enjoys reading the book back to me. This is the one book that is selected in her "top 5" every night.
