Deep Purple survived a seemingly endless series of lineup changes and a dramatic mid-career shift from grandiose progressive rock to ear-shattering heavy metal to emerge as a true institution of the British hard rock community; once credited in the Guinness Book of World Records as the globe's loudest band, their revolving-door roster launched the careers of performers including Ritchie ... 4.0 out of 5 stars A Good Introduction - Existing Fans Take Care October 19, 2013
Format:Audio CD
I'm a new arrival to Purple, having mostly heard only the stuff with Coverdale on vocals and the odd radio single to date. I gather I'm in for a treat and this box set is a prime way for me to dive in to everything the band put out in the 70s. By most accounts, at least half of the albums in this set are indispensable.

Now, for anyone who hasn't picked up one of these "Complete Albums" box sets before, there are some bad points to note in the packaging. Expect nothing fancy. It's a heavier cardboard clamshell box with cardboard envelopes inside which encase the discs. The envelopes reproduce the front and back art of the original LP releases, albeit in a significantly reduced size. They're respectable reproductions and none look low resolution or terribly low quality, but none of the albums in this box are presented as gate-folds (in some other boxes of this line, they did take the step of reproducing original gate-folds if the LP was released in that format). Additionally, and of some disappointment to me, there is no booklet included. No liner notes, no lyrics, no album credits. If you are interested in that stuff, be prepared to break out your magnifying glass to check out the small print on the disc envelopes or hit or wikipedia for that info.

Another unfortunate absence here are bonus tracks. The most recent reissues of a good few of these albums sported bonus tracks, b-sides, out-takes, etc. that are nowhere to be found here. If you are a purist and prefer JUST the album, you are in luck. For those seeking a truly "Complete" experience, you may have to stick to tracking these down individually.

This is a excellent collection of deep purples mk2 And mk3 line up albums these are hard to find in stores especially the David Coverdale stuff that is the main reason I bought this all the Coverdale albums are in here and the best Ian Gillian stuff is included this is a great pack for fans of the band or people just discovering them I love the David Coverdale Glen Hugh's Richie Blackmore Ian paise and Jon lord line up would of been nice if they would of reunited before Jon lord passing. This is a wonderful collection well worth the money it has 10 CDs in a collectors box the CDs are in cardboard sleeves this is a neat looking pack highly recommended.

4.0 out of 5 stars Could have been a little better! November 24, 2013
Format:Audio CD
This would have been a lot better box set if it contained only the albums from the mark 2 line up, including Perfect Stranger, House of Blue Light and The Battle Rages On. It's not that I don't like David Coverdale/Glen Hughes/Tommy Bolin, but for me it's just not really Deep Purple. The basic box set is cool though. Just like the new ZZ Top one that came out recently. Pretty much just like mini album covers packed into a cardboard box. It would have been nice if it came with a booklet or something too.
