I received a Kindle 1 as a birthday gift back in November and followed the simple Amazon directions to download books and then read them. This worked. However, when I went to the Amazon website and read conversations with people that were doing more with the Kindle than I could understand, I purchased Windwalker's book. His ad offered information about "more" ways to use this revolutionary toy and I wanted more. His first book opened the door to understanding how this not just a reader, but a mini computer capable of bringing a huge world of books and information to my fingertips. Now my Kindle experience was great.

By the time Kindle 2 came out, I was way hooked on this product, bought it and of course then immediately read his Kindle 2 information. Although I really enjoyed the struggle related to Kindle 1 (I have been working with computers since the early 80's) - his Kindle 2 book puts readers just a tiny click away from anywhere they want to go and any books they want to read on this marvelous machine. Now the experience was terrific.

Windwalker has made it easy to enjoy all the benefits of the Kindle 1 and 2. His advice and ideas are very valuable and the links are perfect. By the way, I'm a 73 year old woman and I find everything about this technology fantastic.

Apparently this hasn't gotten much past the step of changing the former title from Kindle to Kindle 2. There are some changes to the Kindle 2 system that aren't corrected in the book. Check the forums. Hopefully the author will get around to making the corrections.

Personally, I think it's lame to release a "Beta version" of a book anyway. Books shouldn't become like software. That's the slippery slope we get into with eBooks. It should either be finished and ready for release or not. Period.

Also, save your money and read the well-written manual that comes installed on your Kindle. There are lots of tips and tricks already in there.

I ordered The Complete User's Guide to the Amazing Amazon Kindle II the same day I found out that my husband had ordered my Kindle. I had already relied on Stephen's advice for my original Kindle, and knew he would have excellent tips and explanations for the new version.
His included links turned out to be a double bonus. I refer to the book often, and really feel that it has enhanced my usage of the Kindle. This book really is a must have for any Kindle owner who wants to get the most of their ereader!

the complet users ghuide to the kindle 2
The book is of NO help. The author has no concept of what someone needs to know. It should be basics, not a bunch of references to other siotes, etc. DON'T BUY.

More About the Author

I cut my teeth as a writer covering the Cape Cod Baseball League and other sports for what was then called the Cape Cod Standard-Times and later the Boston Globe, studied the craft of writing with Robert Lowell, Kurt Vonnegut, Monroe Engel and Carter Wilson, and served as Fiction Editor of the Harvard Advocate. In 1999 I founded a small independent publishing company called Harvard Perspectives Press (named after two of my favorite institutions from my undergraduate years, the Harvard House of Pizza and the Harvard Wine Company), and it has done astonishingly well, with a couple of niche bestsellers, other work that we have been proud to published, and now some stunning successes with the Kindle publishing platform. I have three wonderful children, and along the way I've been an author, a community organizer, a bookseller, a publishing executive, a marathoner, an elected official, and some other things unsuitable for mention here.
