This is one of the best of the Mosaic box sets, not just because Farmer
and Golson are excellent musicians-- there are simply no wasted tracks
here, no oddities that might not be to everyones taste; the playing and
the arrangements are always at a very high level. In addition to four discs
of the Jazztet, there are separate quartets headed by each man,and finally
a terrific 7th disc which begins with Golson solo, then adding sidemen, one
musician at a time-- the original album was called Take A Number From 1 to Ten.
And it works. This is followed by an album of Art Farmer and his orchestra--
the arrangements aren't groundbreaking but the playing is solid.
