5.0 out of 5 stars Exploring, examining and unblocking your creativity!
The exercises in the first part of this "trilogy" is more than worth the price of the book. If you choose to do the exercises, your creativity will be released/unblocked. What a positive response this book is for really anyone who wants to live more creatively. If you want to think of yourself as an artist, or if you never thought of yourself as an artist before, this...

1.0 out of 5 stars Not for artists
Art and Fear and Art As avWay of Knowing are far better books. From the perspective of an artist, The Artists Way is pretty worthless. Its combination of psychobabble, hip religion and exercises to "discover oneself" is the type of writing that often passes as wisdom in our culture. I am sure it has helped people feel more creative and perhaps even more self confident...

What a positive response this book is for really anyone who wants to live more creatively. If you want to think of yourself as an artist, or if you never thought of yourself as an artist before, this book is for you. I have already given it as a gift and I'm not even half way through with the reading/journaling/pondering. It would be a tremendous book for your local library. Then, use it on a solo journey or work through it with a group. Gigi

5.0 out of 5 stars A New Respect, November 12, 2009

This review is from: The Complete Artist's Way: Creativity as a Spiritual Practice (Hardcover)
Under the guidance of Julie Cameron, through her books, I undertook a deeply introspective exploration of my own thoughts and values. Until I undertook the daily practice of writing my innermost thoughts, until I made an unbreakable date with myself to do whatever I felt would be important and/or enjoyable , I was largely ignorant of what I really wanted out of life. The creativity and new way of thinking launched me into a new lifestyle that was dedicated to good works for others, yet set aside special time for me. The exercises do not do themselves; following the suggested routine takes dedication and time --- but the results are better balance and clearer thinking. More than worth the effort!

4.0 out of 5 stars Stirring Creativity, August 8, 2008

"Was there any issue this week that felt significant to you in your self-discovery?" Cameron's questions and exercises are very helpful for someone getting started in an artistic pursuit - or someone who needs to reactivate after a period of not working in this arena for a time. The book is written in short essays, some of which have tasks to do. The exercises help reduce the rigidity of our mental constructs, and so open the spirit path. It is a book one may pick up and read at any moment... find a gem of an idea to build upon, or an understanding of what's at work in all of the arts. This book is a treasure for me. It never fails to remind me of the creativity that is always ready to be stirred in every human being.

I didn't realize this was three books in one when I ordered, but I'm glad it was. I've finished the first 12 week workshop and look forward to doing the second soon. Short chapters make it is easy to read and the text is peppered with inspirational quotes that reinforce Cameron's emphasis on creativity's spiritual roots. Going through the first 12 week process helped me find strength I didn't know I had. I highly recommend this book.

5.0 out of 5 stars Amazing!, April 29, 2010

Got this book and am absolutely thrilled with it - read it through (though not the second and third part) and am already on my third week of the Artist's Way...

The articles are certainly thought provoking and coupled with the exercises for each week... well it certainly got the brain cells humming all right!

Am already feeling the change... keep wondering why I didn't buy this book earlier...

It is amazing how obvious it is - we as artists don't take the time out for ourselves - and when we start nourishing ourselves, the results are certainly going to be visible!

I would certainly recommend this book to everyone, blocked or not!

I purchased this item to participate in a book study with a group of friends online. Since we started the book study and began using the book, completing the tasks, etc....I have found myself more in tune with my creative side. I've done MORE creative works in the last few weeks than I had done almost the entire year last year. Not only has this book (and we're not even finished with it yet) helped motivate me and the others, but it's also generated IDEAS, LIFESTYLE CHANGES, and so much more. It has truly been a wonderful tool to have and I look forward to completing the book AND keeping it as a reference.

It's old hat,I know, and people are always claiming "this" or "that" changed their life for the better but, I know that Julia Cameron's "The Artist's Way" resonnated so well with me it did change the way I approached the events of my life - big and small. It helped me rediscover 'my way' and gave me such a broard understanding of myself I have been able to get through good times and bad without the need to resort to self-pity, drugs or long-suffering friends - and it hasn't been half-bad for my art work, either.

5.0 out of 5 stars Life is a continuous canvas of creativity., March 19, 2009
This review is from: The Complete Artist's Way: Creativity as a Spiritual Practice (Hardcover)
This compilation of Artist Way materials is an ideal resource for those seeking to open the doors of creativity in their lives. I am using this book along with The Artist Way Workbook and am experiencing a reawakening of my artist within. I highly recommend this book and other Julia Cameron materials to identify and release blocks to creativity and bring more beauty, balance and delight into your life. Working this program with a small group of other seekers also enhances success. I highly recommend this consolidated edition of writings from an insightful teacher and artist.

This book is really fantastic. I was skeptical for years and didn't pick it up.... then the story that Damon Wayans used Julia Cameron's book and then wrote his novel "Red Hats" in 10 days!! If someone that successful can be blocked - and then unblocked due to this book - I was convinced to try it!! Author, Julia Cameron provides insight into the blocks we experience as actors, artists, writers and simply as people who aspire to live creatively as our authentic selves. It turns out we are wounded easily and often, causing blocks we are unaware of - certainly we don't realize their origin. She teaches how to overcome them and even avoid them altogether into the future, allowing us immense freedom despite the lack of support artistic people and creativity receives from our culture at large. The Complete AW provides a tool to concrete understanding of our strengths, dreams, and limitless potential. Following her workbook and daily steps cause spontaneous practical goals to arise. And, from chapter one, I naturally and without any hesitation, found myself carrying out steps towards my dreams.

This book is the combination of three of Julia's best. My best friend and I have been reading it and comparing notes. Can't say enough good about it. Read it and study it and apply what you learn. You'll be a much better artist because of it.
