I never knew Stephen Foster wrote music for solo piano. The music on this disc is all charming and entertaining. Some are Foster's arrangements of his songs for voice and piano, others are independent pieces. The disc is filled-out with arrangements by others of Foster songs. The playing and recorded sound are excellent. I appreciate that the artist plays the simple pieces as they are written, without adding notes or trying to make them more than they are. The sheet music for some of these pieces is available for free on the web, so I've had fun trying my hand at them. I highly recommend this unusual disc.
