Esoteric, Eccentric and 100% Doo Dah, January 6, 2004

While you might imagine you have quite enough Bonzo Dog in your record collection, you might be surprised to find that you're actually one short. This fantastic compilation of recordings from BBC Sessions that stretch over the decades since the late 1960s provide some true gems of Viv Stanshall genius backed up by the lyrical workings of Neil Innes, and the varied and entertaining contributions of the rest of the band. While you may find yourself thinking that you've heard these tracks before, subtle differences in timing, delivery, instrumentation and presentation make every track an engaging surprise.

For one brief shining moment, I possessed these songs. Now they are gone from my life and I am sad. I've been missing this CD ever since I lost it, and I'm hoping someday that it becomes more affordable. There really are some wonderful songs here; the version of "Keynsham" here is so much better than the one on that album. I'm going to keep an eye out for this, and you should too.
