2007 two CD collection of BBC Sessions from the Scottish rockers led by former Altered Images/Hipsway bassist Johnny McElhone and the charismatic and captivating Sharleen Spiteri. This wonderful collection features 25 of the bands’ In Session recordings made for the BBC at Maida Vale studios during the promotional tours for some their chart topping albums, where the ‘under-the-gun’ pressure of having to re-record songs in single takes creates fantastic alternate versions of some of their biggest and best tracks; a stunning, stripped down 'Say What You Want', a fabulous early take on 'Black Eyed Boy' and a cover of The Beatles’ 'I’ve Got A Feeling' which was only ever recorded for the BBC alongside ‘In Session’ versions of tracks such as 'Tired Of Being Alone', 'Halo', 'In Our Lifetime' and 'Carnival Girl'. It’s a wonderful companion to their Greatest Hits. Universal.

Most Americans do not know who Texas is and that's a real shame because they are superstars throughout much of the world and their unique sound is simply beautiful. I stumbled upon Sharleen Spiteri and the guys from Texas back in the summer of 1989 and have been hooked ever since. For a bunch of white guys and one amazing female vocalist from Scotland, they have a blue-eyed soul sensibility unheard in most pop outfits. Eight albums and two greatest hits into a twenty-year career, this double CD presents the band's rare BBC performances. Simply wonderful!

There is always a good possibility that music recorded live in a radio or tv studio will lack the inspiration of a live audience and the quality of sound from a recording studio.

These discs have the quality of "live in the recording studio" and represent a solid, if not electrying, performances.

I don't know why this set was not release in America, but even casual fans of Sharlene should get this set if it becomes available for a decent price.
