5.0 out of 5 stars A Great Reading of the Bible
The New Living Translation is "half way" between The Message and the New International Version. It is a very good translation if you are looking for something "thought-for-thought" not "word-for word" (in other words, it is more like The Message than the New American Standard Bible). The voice on this reading is very pleasant and gentle--a very mature voice. The quality...

3.0 out of 5 stars The bible on CDs
The narrator has a great voice and sound effects enhance the reading. The problem I have with this forum is that I have not discovered a way to stop the recording and come back to the same place the next day. This means that I have to listen to the whole CD (about an hours worth). I do not have that kind of patience to go through the whole bible in this manner.Complete...

5.0 out of 5 stars A Great Reading of the Bible, May 31, 2003

The New Living Translation is "half way" between The Message and the New International Version. It is a very good translation if you are looking for something "thought-for-thought" not "word-for word" (in other words, it is more like The Message than the New American Standard Bible). The voice on this reading is very pleasant and gentle--a very mature voice. The quality of the sound is good but a little soft. The only thing I don't like is that the pronunciations of the people's names and places are not "correct"--they are very "Americanised" and nowhere near the probable originals. This is not a great factor since no one really knows the exact, correct pronunciations anyway. The 61-CD set covers the OT (46 discs) and NT (15 discs) and are packaged in a fairly nice CD carrier. (If you follow the reading with your NLT paper Bible you may notice that some words are different but there are no significant differences.)

There is more reading than dramatisation, which is a good thing since the reader's voice is pleasant but the "actors' voices" are not as nice. The background music is fairly simple and fades in and out every few minutes and is fairly well done although the tunes are about 20 years' old now. What can be irritating is that they sometimes use the same tune over and over during the same book--the book of Romans is particularly irritating in this regard.

Overall it is an excellent buy and worth every cent. The good things far outweigh the bad things about it.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Investment!, January 28, 2003

This is the Old & New Testament version, 61 CD's in all. The dramatic multi-voice recording helps make the stories of the Bible even more exciting. I would recommend this to anyone who spends a lot of time in a car (especially to and from work) or just doesn't find the time to sit down and read.

5.0 out of 5 stars Wonderful! to hear the Word of God, January 11, 2005

This is my first Bible on CD purchase. In about one month's time I have listened to all but four of the forty-six Old Testament CD's. I am so excited about owning this CD set. It is just wonderful. I really like the multi-voice recordings, and they are not overly dramatized. There are fifteen CD's in the New Testament portion, I am so looking forward to listening to them. I listen most weekdays during my commute (35-45min) to work and while at my desk at work. A Must Buy!

5.0 out of 5 stars Great cd collection, December 19, 2001
This review is from: Complete Bible on CD: New Living Translation (Audio CD)
The Bible (New Testament) becomes powerful and alive
when listened through your speakers. I have not stop listening
to the Holy WORD on cd since I received it a few days ago.
It is a powerful tool that will allow you to hear and understand
the WORD with clarity. Although it will not replace the written
WORD in book format, it is a great supplement for those with
limited time.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent audio version, March 8, 2006

The best thing about this audio Bible is that the narrator does a wonderful job not only reading the text, but also communicating very successfully the meaning, the mood, the message of the Bible. I can not only hear the word, but I also experience the meaning, because the narrator himself understands very well and loves what he reads. I wish that this audio Bible wasn't dramatized at all, because the narrator does such a better job than do the actors.

Highly recommend.

I am the type that stays so busy that if I sit down to read my Bible, I usually fall asleep from the exhaustion that comes with a busy home and more to do than I possibly can do. I have found that using the Bible on CD as I make a meal, clean the kitchen, clean out closets...whatever mindless task that is ahead of me has become a pleasure. Listening to someone else read the Word has opened up the Bible in a whole new way for me. This version is excellent and enjoyable to listen to--it makes me laugh and cry and truly experience things in the Bible that if I read them for myself I believe I would miss! I would especially recommend this for busy people that desire to spend more time putting God's Word into your mind...and cannot necessarily spend the time "sitting" that they might like to---God has truly used this in my life to permeate my thoughts with His. I have bought several copies for others because it has been so valuable to me.

5.0 out of 5 stars Totally worth the money, October 18, 2005
This review is from: Complete Bible on CD: New Living Translation (Audio CD)
I have listened to two of the CD's and I am in the third one, from the Old Testament, which is normally a narrative scripture, so there is only one voice. The book of Jonah allowed me to hear some of the other voices, the dramatization is very good, not excessive. I do not regret buying it at all. The quality is good, and I am happy with the case too.

4.0 out of 5 stars Easy to follow and understand, August 15, 2005
This review is from: Complete Bible on CD: New Living Translation (Audio CD)
I'm trying to really learn and understand the Bible for the first time as an adult and I find the CD's enjoyable to listen to. The narrator's voice is enjoyable to listen to and it is easy to understand since every day words and application are used. I highly recommend it.

Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Complete Bible on CD: New Living Translation (Audio CD)
I had read some of the previous reviews before purchasing this product and I can say all of them were right on. The voice on the CD set is very soothing and enjoyable to listen to. If you are wanting to know the bible, both new and old testiment, then this is definately a very good set to have. The price was reasonable when figuring the many many many hours of listening pleasure you receive!
