A Wonderful Gift for Bakers,
By
This review is from: The Complete Book of Baking (Hardcover)
Like the other reviewers, I bought this book when it came out in 1993. Back then, I needed some different recipes for my Christmas cookie party. The Complete Book of Baking offers everything from the classic recipes such as Peanut Blossoms to the newer Cranberry and Orange Pinwheels. I've baked many different kinds of cookies as well as breads, using this cookbook, and all of them are easy to follow. It's a shame that this book is now out of stock because my husband has used it so much that the pages are starting to come loose. His favorite recipe is the praline pecan cheesecake, which he makes every year. Our families have bragged about his cheesecakes to every one of their friends. Yet not one of them has asked where he got the recipe.

Pillsbury: The Complete Book of Baking,
By A Customer
This review is from: The Complete Book of Baking (Hardcover)
Cooking and baking are hobbies to me. This is by far the best baking book I have come across, I've used it since 1993. I have baked the same recipe's from other cookbooks and they have not turned out nearly as good. I am confident that each recipe is excellent and therefore do not need to spend the time testing the recipe first. Also, you can do all your holiday baking from this book, no need to have a separate book for holiday cookies. I looked this book up on Amazon.com because I needed to buy a replacement copy for myself - that's how much use this book gets!

Best cookbook ever - and I own a lot of cookbooks,

If, in your whole life, you only buy one cookbook for baking, buy this one. I have had this book for years and I love it. There is not one bad recipe. All the staples are there: breads, cookies, pies, cakes, glazes, you name it. There is even a section on terminology, equipment, and it explains things like why you shouldn't substitute butter for shortening and vice versa. The only gripe I have is that the binding isn't terrific - some of the pages have come loose over the years (but then again, I bent the spine so the book would lie flat on the counter). Hark ye bakers: the chocolate chip banana bread on page 380 is better than sex.

Of my four-shelf cookbook collection, it's my absolute favorite.,

This cookbook, and Pillsbury, have never let me down. The book covers everything from cookies to cakes to fancy desserts to yeast breads and coffee cakes. I have had this book for at least ten years now, and I have found many of the recipes to be 'tried and true'. They are thoroughly tested so you get very consistent, yummy results, and now that I live at high altitude, I really appreciate the adjustments included for every recipe. That has helped me learn how to adjust other cookbooks' recipes for high altitude too. The glossy pages withstand the occasional batter spatter, and the pictures make you want to try all the recipes! Like others have mentioned, my book's binding gave out too and a good chunk of the pages have detached. Still, it remains my favorite baking book.

Best Baking Cookbook Ever!!!,
By A Customer
This review is from: The Complete Book of Baking (Hardcover)
I like baking and have used this baking book for ten years, am on my second copy (first one the binding fell apart which annoyed me, but it's such a great book that I purchased it again). If you like picture cookbooks, lots of pictures in this book which covers everything from cookies, cakes, pies, breads, etc. Every recipe I have tried turns out wonderfully and if served to guests I always get compliments. I am so confident that all the recipes are excellent that I don't hesitate to try a new one to serve to guests or bring along to someone's house. I use the book to bake Christmas cookies - the basic holiday cookie recipes are better in this book than even the Joy of Cooking's Christmas Cookie cookbook which I thought was supposed to be a really great book. I don't even consider other books when baking anymore, this is it for me!

I've worn out my first copy,

I LOVE to bake and this is the best out of my extensive collection of cookbooks and recipes.I bought a copy in 1994 and have worn it out. The binding fell apart after five years; no worry...I got a three hole punch and put it in a 3-ring binder. That binder is held together with duct tape now! If you like a variety of recipes, with easy to follow directions and lots of nice photos of the food, this is the cookbook for you.

Awesome!,

This is a fantastic book for people who love to bake. I've made dozens of recipes with no duds- the recipes even include nutritional info and high-altitude tips. It has all the old standbys and standards, and lots of fun recipes too. A friend recommended it to me and I'm so glad she did- it's always the first place I look whenever I need to bake something.

The most awesome cookbook ever!,

I love to bake, and this is the best ever cookbook for it! Even if the binding is poor and the pages fall out. The recipes are the best you will ever find. I lost my copy to my husband in the divorce, but I found it again on the Pillsbury website. Ladies and gentlemen - start your ovens!

Best Baking Book on The Market,

I can't tell you in words just how much I love this baking book. It is without a doubt the best one on the market. I have tried most of the recipes in here and they all turn out perfect and like the picture. My family can't get enough of the cheescakes and they love every cookie! If you buy only one baking book, make sure this one is it!

Best book, but what happened to the price?,
By
This review is from: The Complete Book of Baking (Hardcover)
This is my favorite book we've ever owned! We bought another just last year as a gift for an aunt. Every recipe we have made from this book turns out amazing (minus the cantelope pie--that one was actually disgusting). My husband and I are avid cooks and this is our favorite. However, what happened to the price? We bought this book in almost new condition last year for under $10 and now that I've decided to replace our well worn copy it is well over $100!
