Book Description

November 25, 2000
Want to find a great name for your new boat? We have compiled over 300,000 unique boat names along with the number of times they have been used and put them on CD-ROM. You will spend hours browsing through some remarkably clever, wistful, romantic and humorous names. The most popular (who would have guessed) is Osprey. Here are some other great examples: Fantasea, The Other Woman, Aquaholic, Middle Age Madness, Branch Office, Sex Sea, Another Toy, No Problem, My Way, Irish Wake, Closing Bell, Not On Call, Why Knot, Oy Vey, Attitude Adjustment, Money Pit, Wet Dream and here is one name you can't refuse - God Father. If you can't find a name from this enormous selection, we'll eat our hat in Macy's window!

From the Publisher

You will need either Microsoft Access 97 or any other commercially available database management software (such as dBase, FoxPro or Paradox) that is capable of reading database tables with large numbers of records. The CD-ROM contains a Microsoft Access 97 database (.mdb file extension), two database files (.dbf file extensions), a flat ASCII text file and a license agreement.

The .mdb database can be opened directly in Access 97. It contains 26 separate tables of boat names grouped by their corresponding letter of the alphabet. There are four additonal tables as follows:

"Numeric" - contains all boat names that begin with numbers, punctuations or other symbols. "Alphabetical" - contains the entire set of boat names sorted ascending alphabetically. "Frequency" - contains the entire set of boat names sorted descending by frequency of occurrence. "Counts" - contains a count of boat names within each letter of the alphabet.

The two tables labeled "Boat_names_alpha.dbf" and "Boat_names_freq.dbf" are the same as the Microsoft Access "Alphabetical" and "Frequency" tables but presented in standard database file format. The file labeled "Boat_names.txt" is a simple flat comma delimited ASCII text file containing the entire set of boat names that can be imported into a variety of applications.

Any of the files can be copied to the users hard drive or they may be read, albeit more slowly, directly from the CD-ROM.
