About the Author

Herb Gordon has been paddling North American waterways for more than 30 years. He is currently a national wilderness trip leader and canoe instructor. During his twenty years as a writer and senior producer at NBC News, he won the coveted Peabody award three times for his documentaries. His articles have appeared in such publications as Field & Stream, Skiing, Los Angeles Times, and The New York Times.

The material presented in this book is easy to understand, and also entertaining. The entire book can be read within a day. I recommend this book to learn the basics of canoeing.

I think that this book covered a lot of the material needed for canoeing and is a good guide for teaching younger kids before going on a canoe trip. That is the reason that I looked at this book because I am an environmental educator and was planning a canoe trip. It is a good source.
