Macmillan. 1985. c.288p. illus. by Nancy Lou Makris. intro. by William J. Kay. bibliog. index. ISBN 0-02-502350-0. $19.95. ref/pets A compilation of expert advice on cat care by veterinary specialists. In discussing feline health from birth to death, the authors include emergencies, symptoms of disorders, behavioral problems, and correction/prevention guidance. Helpful glossaries cover commonly used veterinary terms, tests, procedures, and equipment. The encyclopedia of diseases and treatment is the book's unique and most valuable feature. Unfortunately, it is organized from the veterinarian's perspective. For example, to find out about feline dandruff or ticks, one must know to look under Parasitic Skin Diseases. An index (not seen) may correct the shortage of "see" references. The writing, however, is generally very clear and concise. A fine learning and reference tool. Recommended for most public libraries.
