More About the Author

The grandson of famed athlete, Jim Thorpe, Mike played football for Marquette University and the University of Nebraska. He was a high school All America and eventually went on to coach at Deerfield High School, where his teams played in five state championship games. He has written scores of articles and seventeen books, most on football, coaching, and education. Mike is a Ph.D., a former university professor, and a speaker at many different venues, including the Olympic Hall of Fame, several universities, scores of high schools across the country, and different venues for the College Board. He brings a unique perspective to his work, a lifetime of first-hand experiences in education and coaching, and a set of values and beliefs that are well worth reading.

I have lots of drill books on my shelves, but this book actually gives coaching pointers for each drill. It tells you what you ought to tell the kids during the drill. This aspect of the book has been invaluable to my assistant coaches and to many of our feeder coaches in junior high, even the Pop Warner League. It not only shares an absolute wealth of drills, it emphasizes the necessary fundamentals for each player. I really think this is the best drill book on the market.

Excellent Football book. If a Coach wanted to keep just one book going to practices, this would be it. Very good variations of drills for all positions.

I've been coaching football for almost thirty years, and I've never seen a more complete book of football drills. This book has a minimum of 35 to 40 drills for every position on the field -- both offense and defense. It even covers agility drills and special teams. I can't imagine any football coach being without one. This one has it all!
