In the past couple of years, there have been some great books written for those who are just learning to embroider. This is one of them.

Each stitch technique is well set out, with great illustrations, and an example for you to sitch using the techniques you learn. It has specialist chapters, and some good designs for you to use in your own work.

Whether you are a beginner or an experienced embroiderer, you will not regret adding this to your collection.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great instruction guide, November 13, 2002
This review is from: Complete Book of Embroidery: Includes Crewelwork, Goldwork, Ribbon Embroidery, and Embellishments (Paperback)
This book is wonderful for any embroiderer. It shows in excellent detail how each stitch is made. Colour photos and diagrams make this book easy to use. You'll come back to it over and over again. Wonderfully laid out and catagorized. A must for any needlecrafters library. Although this book is a wonderful reference for stitches, it is not a good pattern book. The patterns given in this book are more for examples of how to used many of the stitches. Still, I recommend this book as a reference to needlearts.

5.0 out of 5 stars Complete Book of Embroidery, July 17, 2010
This review is from: Complete Book of Embroidery: Includes Crewelwork, Goldwork, Ribbon Embroidery, and Embellishments (Paperback)
After many years away from cross stitching, I returned to needlework wanting to learn new embroidery stitches and methods of execution. This book combines execution techniques, diagrams in great detail, color pictures, ideas and patterns. Lay language and commond names as well as the proper names of stitches are included making this as easy as a garden book. I really enjoyed it and recommend it to anyone looking for additional stitches to add to their repertoire. Beginner to advanced will like this book. Most bang for your buck too. I bought a used addition and am very happy with it.

I'm mildly dyslexic (and hence enjoy jokes that begin: So a fella walks into a bra), and one of the things I struggle with are directions for stitching things. Most books about embroidery or crochet are very difficult for me to deal with and it takes me awhile to get the concept the author is trying to explain. (Note: once I get the first stitch, problem solved, but sometimes getting there is hard.)

This book is clear as can be, and if you have no issues with dyslexia I'm sure it'll make picking up on various stitches a breeze. The projects in this book also look nice, though I'm not interested in doing other people's projects, but if you are, they are quite pretty.
