Excellent Homeschool or Tutoring Tool,
By
This review is from: The Complete Book of Grammar and Punctuation, Grades 3 - 4 (Paperback)
I homeschool my kids and this is a great workbook. I use it along with The Complete Book of English and Language Arts. As we're about half way through the books, there is some overlap so you could probably just use one or the other. They have enough color and pictures to be interesting without being overbearing. The books have good explanation of each concept and then lots of practice pages so the kids can really get a good feel for each topic. Many workbooks just touch on a subject but do not provide enough daily assignments and then you have to supplement. This book is more than sufficient on its own. This would also be an excellent tool to use to help a child who is struggling in school. There is an answer key in the back. This is a nice thick substantial book.~Note for fellow homeschoolers~ 'The Complete Book of...' line offers many great great workbooks. Some of the others we use are: Animals, Solar System, US History, Presidents and States, Dinosaurs, Science... just to name a few. They are great!

My son in 4thh grade, and he absolutely loves this book. He spent 15-20 minutes with this book every day without asking him.The questions are very clear, and instructions are easy to follow. I have seen a big improvement in my son's grammar and spelling skills after he have done several pages of the book. I highly recommended this book to every 4th grade student.

This is a cute book that I am using to supplement my homeschooling. It covers the grammar and punctuation section of the California state standards. It is fun to do and just the right amount of work for a child. It is not an all-inclusive language arts program, though. You would still need reading and writing books (I like Spectrum Reading and Spectrum Writing). In addition, you would also need spelling and vocabulary / word study books, as well as a lot of library books for daily recreational reading. I like this book because I feel that it has enough repetition and practice of each skill so that my child can learn to write and speak properly. I found that even in college many students did not know the basic rules of grammar. You can't emphasize grammar enough, in my opinion. I am even learning a few things that I had forgotten!

This is a great book for ideas on wroksheets for grammar instruction. You do have to be careful that you fully explain the directions or some students will not get it.

I am using this book as the centerpiece for our 4th Grade homeschool language study. It's a great book, especially for the price.Occassionally, if a concept isn't really firm in my child's mind, I will write up an extra worksheet or two to reinforce the concept. However, the introduction of concepts and rules is just right for us. I really like the "Complete Book of" series. This book in particular is my favorite. I wish I had discovered these earlier, I could have saved a small fortune from the money I've spent on expensive coursework.

I bought this book for a co-worker that has trouble writing emails. He has a lot of problems following punctuation rules and basic grammar. This book is loaded with exercises that will help develop correct punctuation. While I am always surprised that people in their 30's aren't particularly strong at writing e-mails and reports, it has become the way of the world these days. Constant acronyms, street lingo, and slang have permeated English to the point that basic rules are rarely followed or understood. My wife, whose first language is not English, looked over the book extensively and wants a copy for herself. This is a good exercise book for anyone looking to sharpen their language skills, or to correct bad habits.

I love these curriculum resource books. They have been my go to books for years for just about every content area. I use them to prepare for thematic units across content areas.I have the full collection of these wonderful resource books. One school year, the principal challenged teachers to come up with thematic activities that could be implemented in multiple content areas. I found everthing I needed in these excellent books. Because I readily had these books available, I completed my unit in just one weekend night. My team and I were ready to implement the unit first thing Monday morning. Some of the books are organized according to suject areas for reading, reading comprehension, English, spelling, and math. Others contain a fuller more comprehensive curriculum reading, reading comprehension, grammar, social studies, science, writing, and critical thinking. The lessons are in vivid color and bold print. This is just right for the primary grade levels. The books contain an answer key for quick grading. This particular book is organized according to parts of speech, and other grammar structures. It has over 300 pages of activities. The books range from grades pre-K through 6th grade. The books are easy to reproduce. I also get my books spiraled at the local office store so that they are even easier to reproduce. Make sure you get a good office store because I had a book distroyed by an overzealous weak cutter. The book is out of print and no longer available. I was my favorite book.

Book is an easy to follow course. While not necessarily in depth, it does cover the basics and one could not argue that you don't get your moneys worth.

Didn't realize it was intended for 3-4 grade...,

As my title says, the book is good but I didn't realized it was intended for 3-4 grade - I wish that were reflected in the title or more prominently on the page. I was looking at the Amazon age range, which says "9-12". That should really probably be about 8-10 yrs. My son is 12 so it's really not the right level for him. I could probably use some of it with my soon-to-be second grader (if he needed it).I also got the English and Language Arts version of this book, and same story. So now I have two books that I really can't use. |
