Helpful for adults that are learning Spanish,

I bought this as a supplement to my "Spanish for Gringos" book (which is also very good). The workbook makes learning Spanish fun. Okay, so it's targeted for kids in the 1st to 3rd grades, but what better way to learn Spanish than from a book that works with the very basics of the language? I bought a second copy of this for a co-worker and have suggested it to the individual that teaches Conversational Spanish where I work.

I teach Spanish at a community college. I also, from time to time, teach specialized courses in legal, medical, police, you-name-it Spanish. This would be a terrific supplement to the materials necessary for those courses. In addition to writing my own curriculum for each, this would give a needed boost to lots of concepts in a workbook format. I wish I could require it for my beginning college students! They would love it!

Nice workbook for beginners,

I am currently using this workbook with my beginning Spanish students. Although designed for very young students, the activities can be used with any age level. It is colorful and easy to use. It does what it should do very well, the only difficulty is that it may appear too childish for middle-schoolers. (Mine haven't complained too much!)

I know 200 more words in Spanish now,

I'm an adult, trying to learn Spanish on my own, and I found this book in a local bookstore. I bought it, then bought a pack of crayons, and did all of the activities in this book. It took me probably about 15 hours, probably because I spent some extra time coloring.
It's really a great learning resource, and it's so good that I think I learned all of the words in this book. I was surprised how this format makes learning these words so fast. If they make more advanced books in this series, I would buy them all. It's probably good for kids, too.

Great for Early Elementary NOT Older Beginner Students,
By
This review is from: The Complete Book of Spanish (English and Spanish Edition) (Paperback)
I have been searching for a workbook to use with Junior High students just beginning Spanish. This is not the book!
The consumable workbook states it is for grades 1-3 and it is definitely so. I had hoped that an older new Spanish student would be able to use it but it is too babyish for that. The pages are filled with big coloring book type pictures and students are asked to connect a line from ten English words to the Spanish word. Or a page of learning numbers will have six problem, the numeral is written and the student is asked to circle that number of monkeys, birds etc. There are coloring pages for going over color word. The book covers: numbers alphabet parts of speech expressions days of the month colors food animals clothes body family classroom objects I like the learning cards at the back that can be cut out and laminated for learning and review. The Spanish is on one side, English on the other. There are also some pages that can be laminated and put up around the room showing for example, a face with all its parts labeled or a page with clothing and the various pieces named in Spanish. If you are not familiar with Spanish but would like to teach it, this is a great resource as every Spanish word is translated into English for you.

Great supplemental worksheets for Spanish teachers,

This is a WONDERFUL book for teachers to pull from when they need more worksheets or ideas to give a spin on the topic of the day in their Spanish class.
If you don't know Spanish and are trying to teach your child Spanish, it might be a little less than helpful - there's no phonetic spelling - just a lot of great review, wonderful pictures, and this thing is HUGE! It has tons of categories from Numbers, letters, colors, food, etc and even has flashcards and games in the back to cut out. It's full-color and my children really enjoy just looking at it, even though they can't read yet (they're all under four.) I agree on its age range of first -third grade. If you have younger kids, you probably need a CD as well. For elementary review, this is WONDERFUL for summer, or anytime! Sra. Sweet,

Pros:
Teaches Beginner Spanish Activities: Word Finds, Coloring, etc. Has songs and chants at the end Good way to practice Beginner Spanish Cons: Geared for little children so only good for those who aren't too proud to use something for little kids. Can be used only once unless the pages are copied The answers are in the back so cheating can occur Doesn't have pronunciation so would have to know how to say the words.

We like this book very much. It helps make Spanish practice/review easier...HOWEVER it is NOT for someone who does not know how to pronounce words in Spanish. I have taken Spanish from high school through college (unfortunately, I am not yet fluent), so my son is familiar w/ pronounciation. I could not imagine trying to educate a child with this book alone if they are not already familiar with Spanish pronounciation (or at least have someone available for reference). Also, I am frustrated that helpful flash"cards" are made out of flimsy paper instead of card stock (common w/ Amer. Ed. Publishing). Arrrggghhh!!! I would give a 5 if that change was made...

I am a former high school Spanish teacher now teaching to children ages 1-11 years old. I use this workbook for the kids starting at 3 years all the way up to 11. This is a great introduction to Spanish. It covers a lot a vocabulary and includes some introductory grammer.
