Um....,
By StarGymnast (California, USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: The Complete Book of Hairstyling (Paperback)
This book wasn't the best one I've read about hairstyling. The book does give a few good hair-care tips, but many of the styles in here are a little difficult to do and I don't think anyone who isn't good at hairstyling would be able to do them without help. Most of the styles in this book are for special occassions like weddings, dates, and vacations. "The Complete Book of Hairstyling" would be a good book if you want to find a style for one of the occasions above, but other then that, it would be wise to skip this book.

A few good styles buried under pages of useless information,
By Mae (Raleigh, NC) - See all my reviews
This review is from: The Complete Book of Hairstyling (Paperback)
Learning how to care for and style your hair seems to take a back seat to a distracting, absurd, and irrelevant storyline of four fictional girlfriends. I did manage to find a few hairstyles that I liked, making it more or less worth the $13.57. I'm all for trying a new look, but this book is innundated with downright ridiculous hairstyles. The photos are not labeled with what style it is, so it is frustrating to try and match styling instructions with the look you would like to achieve. The layout is visually overstimulating and chaotic, making it difficult to find simple answers to styling questions.

Totally Complete,
By taleeya "taleeya" (Vancouver, BC Canada) - See all my reviews
This review is from: The Complete Book of Hairstyling (Paperback)
This book is great! Its a combination of his 4 books (Vacation, City, Big Date and Big Day Hair). The pictures are beautiful, the writing is simple and there is pretty much everything you need to know about hairstyling in one book. Everything is broken down into easy to follow steps and tells you what you need before you start. But if you already have his other 4 books, I don't think this has any new material.

This book is great if you know what you are doing but if you are a beginner it may not help so much. This book has really good advice and hair style ideas but not any step by step pictures. In other words if you can read it and understand what they are trying to tell you, you will do great. If you need to see what they are doing your out of luck. The only think I did not like is the story in book since it doesn't do anything for this book.

a bit daring,
By S.H.K. (Rockville, MD USA) - See all my reviews

the text in the book was quite helpful and the artistry of the photos were great...but the fact of the matter is, someone would have to be crazy or else realllly daring to try some of these hairstyles: think teased huge, feathers sticking out of the head, chopsticks-overload giving a general porcupine look to one hairstyle. as inspiration or perhaps wild runway looks they're wonderful, but i don't know anyone who would ever attempt to wear one of these styles in public. keep that in mind.

Complete book of hairstyling,

I found this book informative and interesting, but it wasn't quite what I was looking for. If you looking for a step by step book, Hair: A Book of Braiding and Styles/Book and 3 Scrunchiesby Anne Akers Johnson looks like it would be more help.

Terrific overall book about hairstyling,
By JBtw "Acts 2:38" (Seattle, WA) - See all my reviews

This book covers in section by section style each aspect of making and having beautiful hair. I'm an amateur (home grown) stylist and I wanted a book that covered the basics and beyond and it certainly does. I also just cut 16" off my hair and wanted to know how to keep the "just from the salon" look, this book helped so much! Easy to read and follow tips and instructions. Great descriptions. Would make a great gift for a teenager or anyone interested in gaining professional hair care knowledge. (The only reason for 4 stars and not 5 is because it has this odd story line about these make believe women along the way, which do not add anything to the book except pages.)

Not what I thought,

I am doing my own hair for my wedding. This book has a wedding section so I thought it would work. It did not.Unless you like the kind of hairstyles that are impossible to maintain and that you only see on a runway model, do not buy this book. The majority of the styles are odd and not for every day life. If you are the kind of woman who doesn't believe in spending more than 25 minutes on your hair, Do Not buy this book. These styles take at least an hour to complete and are very hard to do at all. There is one good thing about this book. It does give good advise on coloring and conditioning. So, if that is what you are looking for, do buy it. This book led me to believe I was purchasing a hairstyle book. In reality it is only good for hair treatment, because of the unrealistic quality of the styles that they offer.

Buy this book to be told what you are doing wrong,
By A Customer
This review is from: The Complete Book of Hairstyling (Paperback)
The tips in this book are not for real people, they are written for people who have too much time and money to spend on their hair. I do not know anyone who actually has the time to wash, condition and blow dry their hair in the manner detailed in this book, let alone style it. The author makes it sound like you MUST blow dry your hair and coat it with expensive styling products in order for it to be healthy; there is something wrong with that thinking. If you have the time and the money to spend hours on your hair, this book is for you.

I love this book!,
By A Customer
This review is from: The Complete Book of Hairstyling (Paperback)
I don't know why it was given one star by the other reviewer. It has many up-to-date, step-by-step instructions on how to do over 100 different, modern styles. Unlike other book that have ugly styles, these are hip for clubbing, work, different locations, weddings, fun, and vintage. I'm excited to try the different styles out. Every style I've tried so far has worked and looked like I spent a lot of time! Not all styles are time-consuming, like the other review said. It is faster to blow-dry your hair w/ a product than airdry it anyway. The negative reviewer was confused or needs to buy a good hairdryer. The products make the hair. By the way, a really good book on haircare products w/o breaking your wallet is "Don't go shopping for haircare products w/o me". These styles seem to be targeted to Jr High, college, and older women as well. It's not for little girl styles. I'm excited to try the dreadlocks!
