Product Description

This is a NEW (2010) easy-to-read translation by ancient languages scholar Dr. A. Nyland and is NOT one of the many public domain translations of Enoch NOR IS IT A REWORDED PUBLIC DOMAIN VERSION of Enoch.
Great advances which have been made in ancient word meaning in the last twenty years were unknown to the translators of the public domain versions of the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries.
Despite the current trend for non-translators to reproduce public domain versions (both as is and disguised by slight rewording) as a commercial venture, be aware that such public domain versions do not take advantage of recent scholarship in word meaning or any corrections in translation.
This new translation by Dr A. Nyland contains all three Enochian books:
1 Enoch (The Ethiopic Book of Enoch)
2 Enoch (The Slavonic Book of Enoch, The Secrets of Enoch). This volume contains the extended version of 2 Enoch, The Exaltation of Melchizedek.
3 Enoch (The Hebrew Book of Enoch)
Note that this is Dr. Nyland's translation and NOT a public domain work.
1 Enoch tells of the Watchers, a class of angel, who taught humans weapons, spell potions, root cuttings, astrology, astronomy, and alchemies. The Watchers also slept with human women and produced the Nephilim. For this, they were imprisoned and cast into Tartarus. This is also mentioned in the New Testament. In 2 Enoch, two angels take Enoch through the 7 heavens. This volume contains the extended version of 2 Enoch, The Exaltation of Melchizedek. In 3 Enoch, Enoch ascends to heaven and is transformed into the angel Metatron. This is about the Merkabah and is of interest to Kabbalists.
People interested in Theosophy and Rosicrucianism will find this book invaluable.
There are copious background notes and cross references to Bible verses.
This book is an easy to read translation with cross references and notes.

5.0 out of 5 stars An Important Work, January 3, 2011
Dr. Nyland's translation of the books of Enoch is brilliant and has come at the perfect time, as I am working on projects that require this information. I had no idea that this book would include 2 Enoch and 3 Enoch (in addition to 1 Enoch) with all-inclusive commentary and cross-references concerning the very same beings who I am researching. This book is a gem and should be included in the libraries of all demonologists, as well as anyone who is interested in knowing who the principalities are behind spiritual warfare. I recommend this book for all open-minded Christians who have not been brainwashed by the watered-down teachings of their churches. I truly wish that I would have read this book before writing my first novel, as it would have had a completely different storyline for the demon named Sancho.

2 Enoch even includes more information about Noah than we see in our tailored Holy Bibles.

I should also note the significance of the many other important prophetic messages that Dr. Nyland has translated into easily understood modern English. The last days are upon us and God has allowed for this new knowledge to be spread throughout the world. It was 1947 when the first of the controversial Dead Sea Scrolls were found within the Qumran caves. I truly believe that 1 Enoch and possibly 2 Enoch were at one time a part of the original canon, as Jude directly quoted from 1 Enoch chapter 1 in his prophetic message within the B'rit Hadashah (New Testament).

I'm completely blown away by the writings of 3 Enoch. I'm in awe at what Rabbi Ishmael was able to witness and record. To me, it seems as if he had experienced astral projection on a higher level, similar to what Enoch had experienced before he was taken up from this world.

It is time for all believers to understand the importance of The books of Enoch and I am very pleased to know that there are lexicographers such as Dr. Nyland in this world who are working toward bringing this knowledge to the people. May God bless her work and protect her from evil as she continues to do His will through her.

5.0 out of 5 stars An academic, scholarly presentation of the fascinating Books of Enoch, August 29, 2011

I've spent my entire life studying the scriptures of the Bible, as well as anything that puts the scriptures into context and supplements them. For example, I love taking in historical information that gives me insight into the times and cultures in any given era that a particular book of the Bible was written in. I've always found the book of Enoch to be a curious thing, as it is not considered Biblical canon by most, maybe even heretical rather, and yet it IS quoted and referred to numerous times in the Bible itself, most blatantly in the Christian Greek scriptures (BUT as I've learned from this collection, it contains numerous connections and cross references to the Hebrew Scripture/Old Testament as well). Wanting to learn more, I bought this book and I am very glad that I did.

One great thing about this addition of the complete books of Enoch is that everything is here. All three books relating to Enoch that were found alongside the other written works of the Dead Sea Scrolls are here and translated simply and beautifully. I am very grateful for the concise and modern language employed by the translator for this work. It is practical, understandable, and yet doesn't sacrifice any of the original meaning, which is refreshing.

The book is very unbiased and objective, even in the additional "commentary" parts that are scattered numerously throughout the book. Thankfully, Dr. Nyland does not fall trap to the grating, presumptuous mistake that most religiously oriented supplementary book authors do; that mistake being injecting his/her own ideas into the work and treating that as if their own conjecture and speculation is God's inspired word as well (a very arrogant, annoying practice, if you ask me). Rather, the author takes a very scholarly approach by merely presenting the material untouched, and then by giving context to certain terms that appear in the writings themselves. Certain names and terms may be unfamiliar to most (there were many terms I really had no idea about), so there will be a box that informatively tells you what that term meant to people of the time it was written, and may even show you some scriptures that specifically refer to that very same subject. As a result, it really does bring the book of Enoch into the context of the Bible itself, feeling as if it belongs there.

Overall, I am often amazed just how coherent and consistent that the Book of Enoch is with the rest of the canonical scripture! It's clear that many people throughout the entire 1,000+ years of the Bible, whether Hebrew or Christian, believed and considered the story of Enoch to be canonical and legitimately inspired of God. It's all fascinating. Truly, my wife and I cannot rate this book highly enough. The works themselves are fascinating, they never contradict anything the Bible tells us, and if you believe they should be a part of Biblical canon, you'll be amazed at the revelations this book contains. However, even if you remain skeptical about its validity in comparison with the Bible, OR if you think the Bible itself is invalid (which I doubt if you're looking at this page to begin with, but maybe not), you'll still want to pick this up if you have any interest in ancient texts, Biblical history, or enjoy reading academic, informative works on ancient cultures and religious beliefs, this is a great purchase to make.

I give this book the highest recommendation due to its clear, concise, and faithful presentation of the original works, it's scholarly, informative supplementary information that really compliments and benefits the works, and the beautiful, fascinating, and interesting content that the actual Books of Enoch contain. This collection is great! Buy it, absorb its contents, and enjoy the learning!

This review is from: Complete Books of Enoch: 1 Enoch (First Book of Enoch), 2 Enoch (Secrets of Enoch), 3 Enoch (Hebrew Book of Enoch) (Book of Enoch / Books of Enoch) (Kindle Edition)
At last, all three books of Enoch together in one book and none of them public domain! How refreshing. This book is packed with background information on angels and other relevant information, has copious notes, and cross references to scripture. If you are interested in any books of Enoch, this book is a must-have.
