Pete Fountain and George Gerard making jazz history, July 6, 2006

This CD captures the early credentials of Pete Fountain (now 76 years old) and George Gerard who died in his late 20's and many would say was one of the greatest New Orleans' horn players. George was l9 and Pete was l8 when these sides were made, and although these are not the best recordings by the Basin Street Six (Mercury sides the best but not on CD yet), these sides capture the spirit and innovation of the group. Pete went from this eventually for his tenure with Lawrence Welk, which put his name on the map. By all means, a must for anyone wanting an authentic New Orleans sound!
