if you're just getting into sea shell collecting and are looking for a guide that's mainly for identifaction of some of the shells found here in the US-then I recommend this book.

It's smaller size is perfect as a take along guide. The author has clear photos of many common shells, as well as where in the US you would find them, as well as an approximate monatery value (which may be a bit higher as this book is a decade + old, but seems pretty accurate).

My eight year old son, who is a budding conchologist, loves to look through this book-and can now identify several shells from it. I refer to it quite a bit as well.

I wouldn't recommend to a more advanced collector as it is too basic for that. Also, as to the "shelling" aspect-the book gives you no more hints or tips to shell collecting than any other shell book.

Overall-a great basic guide-and you can get it dirt cheap here on Amazon (used)!

This is the most complete book I have ever found to identify Flordia seashells. As an avid collector I have used the book to both identify shells and found it helpful for classroom presentations with my shells.

This purchase was worth it. It helped me a lot when I needed how to price shells for a gallery.

This guide book is a great book for beginners or young children. The format of the book makes it easy to look up a shell you've discovered. While there are many high quality photographs in this book I am only rating it 4 stars because I found some of the photographs to be of lesser quality, thus making the identification between specific species within a shell category a little more difficult.

This book is probably not for the avid collector.
The values given to each shell may or may not be completely accurate, but they are fun to see.
