My Aunt Rita - known as Rita Farrell in her days as a top dancer and singer - has two duets with Mel on this album. They are just great. She and Mel were friends for many, many years, and she made many appearances on his show - as did her daughter, and my cousin - the late Mary Schour.

Superior sides, superior singing,

I still can't believe Merv's Columbia sides are actually on CD, but I'm certainly not complaining. Some lovely pop ballads, some over the top novelties (as novelties SHOULD be), and some numbers that fall someplace in between. Columbia's pop vocal productions of the Fifties were the best of the era, and Griffin--who, don't forget, was an outstanding vocalist--never sounded better. "Ginny" and "I Kiss Your Hand, Madame" are alone worth the price of the CD and demonstrate the absurdity of Merv's "golden throat" reputation.
