5.0 out of 5 stars The best book I have read on Crohn's Disease
I read this book with much apprehension because I am tired of everybody trying to make a buck off my health.

The "Complete" thing was something that I was totally afraid of. I was just simply tired of all the books that "promised" the best information about Crohn's Disease.

The best thing about this book is that it promises nothing but delivers...

5.0 out of 5 stars The best book I have read on Crohn's Disease, July 3, 2003

This review is from: The Complete Crohnie Handbook: A Comprehensive Guide for the Crohn's Disease Patient (Paperback)
I read this book with much apprehension because I am tired of everybody trying to make a buck off my health.

The "Complete" thing was something that I was totally afraid of. I was just simply tired of all the books that "promised" the best information about Crohn's Disease.

The best thing about this book is that it promises nothing but delivers everything.

After 7 years of dealing with a disease that just refuses to go away, it was nice to see that someone else realizes what it is like to deal with it and keep a sense of humor about it. Even with the problems of Crohn's Disease, Robert Pilkington delivers the information in language that I can understand and in situations I have actually had to experience and deal with.

The real world situations that are shown about the everyday reality of a Crohn's Disease is placed at the right time and in the right place throughout this book. I cannot express enough how this book made me take a look at my everyday life and how I, and I alone can control this disease.

It was nice to see that I am not the only one having to deal with the fact the my family and friends have no clue about what I live with.

I would recommend this book to every one that has Crohn's Disease and their family and friends.

5.0 out of 5 stars Very Complete and Infomative, June 30, 2003

This review is from: The Complete Crohnie Handbook: A Comprehensive Guide for the Crohn's Disease Patient (Paperback)
This is one of the most complete books I have ever read on Crohn's Disease. The book consistently reduced the medical mumbo jumbo that I have always been told and made it make sense.

Well written with the non-medically educated patient in mind.

Excellent source for medical and nutritional information.

I also enjoyed the up-beat attitude that the author has regarding how he copes with such a terrible disease.

5.0 out of 5 stars Read this Book!, September 4, 2004
This review is from: The Complete Crohnie Handbook: A Comprehensive Guide for the Crohn's Disease Patient (Paperback)
This book has everything!
I learned more about my digestive system, diet, vitamins, medications and how this disease affects me than in any other book I have read.
I have purchased several other book about crohn's disease from Amazon but this book was by far the best.
If you are looking for a book that will give you what you need to know about crohn's disease, this book will do just that.
This is the best book I have read on crohn's disease, period, paragraph.
For not being a doctor, Robert R. Pilkington has as much knowledge and information as any doctor that I have seen. His book will provide you with the information you need to get your crohn's disease under control and keep it under control
EXCELLENT BOOK AND INFORMATION!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent book, Easy to Understand, June 16, 2003
This review is from: The Complete Crohnie Handbook: A Comprehensive Guide for the Crohn's Disease Patient (Paperback)
This book is an excellent source of information for Crohn's Disease. Mr. Pilkington has done a tremendous amount of research and obviously became well versed on the disease. What made this book better than most I have read is that it was a very easy read. I was able to read the entire book in a very short time and once I started, I did not want to put it down.

His book is written in an easy to understand English and for the first time I did not have to go to other sources of information to understand what was being said in this book. The information is presented in a positive, concise and defined format. His upbeat attitude regarding a battle that he cannot win, only maintain was refreshing.

Mr. Pilkington's presentation of the medications, non-steriods and vitamin / supplement chapters were excellent in both the accuracy and importance of the many medications a Crohn's disease patient must take. I also found the chapter on "women" and "depression" very helpful.

This is a "must read" book for anyone who has Crohn's disease or ulcerative colitis.

4.0 out of 5 stars Very useful handbook!, January 22, 2010
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: The Complete Crohnie Handbook: A Comprehensive Guide for the Crohn's Disease Patient (Paperback)
I enjoyed reading this book, although noticed many errors and typos throughout the book while reading. Additionally, some information within the book was dated. However, I thought the content throughout the book was very informative and educational. It is a great resource to have for people suffering from Crohn's disease.

5.0 out of 5 stars Thank you for the book, November 4, 2003
This review is from: The Complete Crohnie Handbook: A Comprehensive Guide for the Crohn's Disease Patient (Paperback)
I showed up at Mr. Pilkington's home unexpected and he and his wife were very cordial and listened to my cousin's dilemma and her bout with crohns disease. After about an hour of my story, Mr. Pilkington graciously offered me a book and signed it for my cousin.

My cousin has had Mr. Pilkington's book for about 12 weeks. She has been able to eat foods that Mr. Pilkington describes in his book with much success and she is gaining weight and is feeling much better.

Simply put, Mr. Pilkington tolerated my showing up unannounced, listened to my story, gave me a book, signed it and gave me his cell phone number. Then he told me that my cousin could call him anytime to talk about the problems she was dealing with.

Mr. Pilkington's book is very well written and Mr. Pilkington and his wife are some of the nicest people I have ever met. When I showed up unannounced at their home and they took the time to talk to me, it was a true showing that Mr. Pilkington is really concerned about helping people with crohns disease.

I would like to personally thank Mr. Pilkington and his wife for being so cordial and friendly when they did not have to be, and, I would like to thank him for being concerned about my cousins health.

Thank you Mr. Pilkington. I appreciate the time you spent with me and I will recommend you and your book to everyone and anyone that I know that has crohns disease

5.0 out of 5 stars Letter From The Honorable J.D. Hayworth to Robert Pilkington, August 16, 2003
This review is from: The Complete Crohnie Handbook: A Comprehensive Guide for the Crohn's Disease Patient (Paperback)
Dear Bob:

I appreciated receiving your book The Complete Crohni Handbook, and have added it to my personal library. You're right about the fact that an understandable book for the layperson was needed, and I thank you for stepping forward to fill that void.

Dealing with Crohn's Disease is a hardship that the rest of us cannot comprehend, and your determination to live each day with happiness and a positive attitude is a true lesson in life.

Please accept my best wishes, and may God bless and keep you.

Sincerely,

J.D. Hayworth
Member of Congress
