Book Description

1994
Starting with Candelero Chico, this Guide overlaps the Cruising Guide to the Lower Gulf, covering the Baja coast , including the offshore islands of Carmen, Coronados, and San Marcos, thence north to Bahia de los Angeles and across the Midriff Islands to Bahia Kino on the mainland. In 174 pages, it covers anchorages in 120 areas with 120 photos, and 75 detail charts personally surveyed and described by the author. Many GPS coordinates are given, taken on the spot. Shorelines are taken from the only modern survey of the Gulf, the joint USA and Mexican aerial survey which produced the Mexican 1:50,000 topographical map series. Spiral bound.

About the Author

Gerry Cunningham, well known designer of outdoor sports equipment, started surveying and charting the anchorages of the Gulf of California, or Sea of Cortes, over 40 years ago. He published charts of the San Carlos area in 1970, and the first edition of Cruising Guide to San Carlos in 1985. Gerry searches out and surveys all viable anchorages in an area. Where you see an anchor symbol on his charts, that means that he has personally had his hook down there. There are no speculative anchorages.. If he gives a GPSM position, that means he has sat in that spot for at least 15 minutes, recording the readings every minute in order to eliminate any momentary anomalies, and to give you the best possible fix.

Gerry has accurately surveyed and charted over 270 anchorages, which are described in his 3 Cruising Guides covering the Sea of Cortez from Cabo San Lucas up the Baja coast to Bahia de los Angeles, across the Midriff Islands to Bahia Kino and down the mainland coast past San Carlos to Guaymas harbor.

5.0 out of 5 stars Using Gerry Cruising Charts Guides, March 7, 2000
By
This review is from: The Complete Cruising Guide to the Middle Gulf (Paperback)
These are the best guides to cruising the Sea of Cortez. I have used the charts while cruising and have worked aboard the Berinci Mevki helping to survey many of the anchorages, rocks and currents in the gulf. I can attest to the devotion to accuracy and completeness with which Gerry has worked over the years to supply first class information about a complex subject. After 40 years of charting Gerry is still at it while all the rest have retired from the struggle. The best charts continue to improve.
