Not for true beginners,

This review is from: Complete Decks (Stanley Complete) (Paperback)
I purchased this book because it has great pictures and illustrations. However, upon actually trying to plan out the process, I realized that the book is missing detail appropriate to the completely inexperienced builder. For instance, I have no experience setting posts. Supposedly pages 92 and 93 (images 3 and 4) give all the details you need, but they don't show how the braces that keep the posts plumb are supported or kept stationary on the ground. Maybe this is small business for anyone who's built anything before, but I'm not one of those people, so the "Complete" in the title seems inaccurate to me.
The book does include plenty of pictures and diagrams, which is helpful for the visual learner. I just need more detailed captions before I am comfortable undertaking such a project.

Complete Decks was a wonderful resource for us as we planned our deck, deliberated on the type of footings, steps, rails, etc. We referenced it often as we eventually built our deck ourselves. Highly recommend this helpful book.
