5.0 out of 5 stars These books may save your life!
This book, along with "Prediabetes: What You Need to Know to Keep Diabetes Away" by Gretchen Becker, is an excellent resource for someone newly concerned and rightfully a little alarmed about her/his blood glucose level testing above normal.

I can't exactly say how the book was, since it was given to my mom that is pre-diabetic. She is having a hard time eating healthy food and was not impressed about the book. I did read the reviews and researched it and for those that are interested in changing their eating habits, it seems it would be good.

5.0 out of 5 stars These books may save your life!, September 16, 2007
This book, along with "Prediabetes: What You Need to Know to Keep Diabetes Away" by Gretchen Becker, is an excellent resource for someone newly concerned and rightfully a little alarmed about her/his blood glucose level testing above normal.

One of the first questions one might have is "What should I eat to prevent diabetes?" In this total life plan, which includes practical advice for weight-loss and exercise--the two imperatives of prevention, Woodruff and Saudek also provide two weeks of menus and 150 superb and healthy recipes that are easy to make.

I have served many dishes to guests who just thought I had made a terrific meal. They had no idea the recipes were from a diet book. Some tasty examples are Grilled Tuscan Tenderloin, Slow-Cooked Sicilian Pot Roast, Scallops with Peanut Sauce, Salmon with Roasted Plum Tomatoes, Cherry Bavarian, Cinnamon Peach Crisp, Dilled New Potatoes and Peas, Crab Louis Dip, Double Bran Muffins, Toasted Muesli and Citrus Vinaigrette. These have all become favorites in our menu repertoire!

My husband and I have both lost several pounds in a few months with these recipes/menus. Sandra Woodruff's other cookbooks are great too. And, don't forget the exercise. We are also walking 35 to 45 minutes every day. Making time to exercise daily and eat right is a better choice than sliding blindly into what could become a debilitating and life-threatening disease. Buy both books and start taking back your life.

5.0 out of 5 stars Pre-Diabetic or not, these are great recipes!, October 6, 2010
By
After loving 95% of the recipes I made from Woodruff's 'Good Carb Cookbook' I gave this one a shot to add more variety to my meal plans. I am not diabetic or even pre-diabetic but I do have PCOS and a family history of diabetes both of which can make me more susceptible to eventually getting it so I try to follow the low-GI lifestyle. This cookbook has lived up to my high expectations thus far, I have made about 10 of the main entree dishes and they all have been home-runs. My husband loves them too and he would never eat "diet" food on purpose.

If you want to learn the ins and outs about diabetes, this is the book. Great, detailed information presented in laymans terms. The only draw back is that it does not give the sugar content in the recipes.
