Complete Dirty Laundry,

This review is from: The Complete Dirty Laundry Comics (Paperback)
I loved this collection of comics by R. & Aline Crumb. Although Aline is admittedly not as good as artist as Robert, the comics are no holds barred, witty looks, into their personal lives. I am a fairly new Crumb addict. I didnt get into his art in the 70's, when I was a teenager, so its fun looking back at this great stuff that was penned in the late 70's/early 80's. I recommend this book!

I read somewhere that Aline got the title to this book from Terry Zwigoff, who looking at it said something like, "This is awful! It's like sharing all your dirty laundry!"That Aline is really something. She is a great example of someone who came from a background of feeling inadequate, unattractive and without talent or moral support to adventuring through so many facets of life with bravado, wit, humor and plenty of self-effacement. My hat is of to her for so many brave things she did. Geez, taking on R. Crumb was quite an accomplishment in itself! Here was a man -- endearing, sweet, refined, famous and authentic -- and apparently incapable and/or unwilling to be monogamous with her, and she braved it out, hung in there, learned to take care of herself when he wasn't there to do it, and managed to maintain a home for herself, for R. Crumb and their daughter while also continuing with her own creative pursuits in the form of writing autobiographic comics. It is thanks to Aline that R. Crumb has done so much autobiographical stuff himself, both with and without Aline, and I for one am tinkled pink. I had read all of Aline's newer book, "Need More Love" before I read this one and there was some duplication. I also can't remember where one started and the other left off, but if you are a fan of this woman or this famous couple this book is a "must have"!
