5.0 out of 5 stars The Complete Encyclopedia of Natural Healing- Good to the last page!, October 26, 2006
This review is from: The Complete Encyclopedia of Natural Healing (Paperback)
The Complete Encyclopedia of Natural Healing offers quick and relevant insights for your health. I truly enjoy this book for its straight forward details and users-friendly nature. Dr. Null writes with a simple elegance which makes the information easy to understand and even easier to apply. Easier does not mean simply. I find that practically every sentence offers some important insights into the subject; this is not a small feat considering the fact that the "Complete Encyclopedia" is over 600 pages. I'd read other reviews knocking this book for its lack of scientific references, but there are more than enough notable references. Honestly, do you really want to read 5,000 scientific citations every time someone says that vitamin C or ginseng works? If you really do, then I suggest you read Dr. Gary Null's "Clinician's Handbook of Natural Healing," which offers 870 pages of scientific peer review studies. Growing up in an Asian household, I can not tell you how much astragalus, wolfberry and other Chinese herbs I ate not as herbal remedies but as a part of a regular diet. I have also added daily supplements of numerous vitamins to my diet for the better part of my life. If I have a bias for the alternative supplements mentioned in Dr. Null's book, it is formed through years of personal experiences. My wife and I use the remedies mentioned in the "Complete Encyclopedia" quite often, because information is quickly available and comprehensively revealed. Furthermore, Dr. Null's reputation as one of the primary authority on dietary supplements is unequivocal considering the outstanding history he has as a pioneer of the industry. His "Complete Encyclopedia of Natural Healing" is a wonderful complementary journal that read with a coffee table friendliness.

(Comments based on the 2006 edition)
This book has five hundred pages covering various illnesses, 70 pages on the "Gary Null Protocol and testimonials" and finishes with another 130 pages on various treatments which is mostly more testimonials. There is no section on nutrients and what they do or dosages (sometimes the illness sections do mention dosage for some nutrients).

Largely this book depends on whether or not you trust and believe Gary Null. (there are no actual references as to where he obtained any of this information, no references to studies) If you trust Mr. Null then this is a highly readable book. And may be one of the best resources for a non-technical person.

But if you are looking for a reference book to further your knowledge of nutrition this probably isn't the best choice of book.

I do recommend this book (despite the low rating I've given it), the information (what little there is) appears to be good. And it certainly should rate highly for the "readability" factor. This book really shouldn't be sold for more than about $10.

5.0 out of 5 stars One of the best books on health and nutrition by Gary Null, May 18, 1999
By A Customer
This book was written for the layperson but written by an Expert. Gary Null gets down to the root of the problem and tells you what to do for your problem. An important thing that he talks about doing for almost every symptom is to exercise and to destress which is very important instead of just taking vitamins. The book also includes a section on magnet therapy and biofeedback.

5.0 out of 5 stars The Complete Encyclopedia of Natural Healing by Gary Null, September 14, 2003
The book is excellent overall. The author's presentation is
drawn considerably from his own experience in formulating and
implementing these protocols. Some of the protocols may be
seen in various journals of the Lancet or in studies done
overseas. Dr. Null emphasizes the need for a patient to
"listen to the body" as a condition precedent to a successful
healing experience. That is, repeating harmful behaviors
only impedes the healing process. The key to a successful
healing experience is a careful monitoring and control over
behaviors which are at the heart of the disease process.
Dr. Null's extensive knowledge of bio-chemistry is evident
from the discussion and implementation of a number of the
recommended protocols. To gain a better perspective on the
general area of alternative medicine, it might be helpful to
utilize this work in conjunction with the Alternative Medicine
work by Burton Goldberg. In addition, Dr. Null gives frequent
lectures on radio . It would be helpful to listen to these
presentations in order to obtain foundational material on
the peer-reviewed journals which cite the natural healing
methodologies and the supportive statistical data.
Burton Goldberg's work on Alternative Medicine cites
hundreds of alternative medicine practitioners and an
equal number of research sources in peer-reviewed journals.

5.0 out of 5 stars I can heal myself., October 27, 2000
My asthma has entirely improved. I run everyday and my energy level is soaring. I believe everyone should have a copy of this book in their home. Throw away the medicine in the medicine cabinet and fill it with natures healing sources! Thank you Mr. Null.

3.0 out of 5 stars References ?, June 21, 2003

I lecture on nutrition wellness and holistic medicine. Gary's book is of use to me however it would be of more use if the facts in the book were referenced to peer reviewed studies. There are no references substantuating what he says in the book. There are also not many references to side effects or contraindications. Overall its not a bad book. I just wish it was more referenced.

5.0 out of 5 stars Step by Step Guide to Nutritional Wellness, November 12, 2002
By
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This book covers pretty much any ailment you could be suffering from. Whether it's obesity, headaches, chronic fatigue, candida, irritable bowel, etc, it's covered here.

This books gives a good insight to a bunch of Alternative Therapies, and lists testimonials for each of the ones mentioned. I liked the part where a man gave his testimonial on Gary's Hair Regrowth Protocol. It was a genuine testimonial. Usually, I think testimonials are garbage, but having listened to Gary for many years, you know he wouldn't try to hype anyone up.

This book is exceptional for anyone looking to put an end to their suffering, as Gary lays it all out in plain English what it will take to get over whatever condition you suffer from. Excellent book.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent Family Resource, October 26, 2006
By

This review is from: The Complete Encyclopedia of Natural Healing (Paperback)
I bought this excellent reference for use in my family room; I began to notice that my husband and children seemed to complain about the same symptoms over and over--I was clearing my throat a lot, my son with a tummy ache after certain meals, and my husband had some dental issues that we needed to deal with. What was nice was that I could look up a certain condition, and not only find certain helpful herbs, nutrients, and foods to alleviate the various symptoms, but it also helped me find out what I was doing that worsened my symptoms, so that I could begin to avoid these things. For example, the section on gum health showed me that the regaular intake of important nutrients like Coenzyme Q10 could help in avoiding inflammation in the mouth. My husband and I found this to be very helpful. In addition, small things, such as avoiding the daily glass of coke with our dinner meals --as we learned that it can really erode tooth enamel--has helped out with the dental bills as well.
I found the chapters concise and clear, with guidelines for nutrient amounts as well as helpful summaries at the end of each chapter for quick referral. Thank you for this compendium of helful hints! It is excellent!
