This book is pretty bizarre. It contains interesting info on characters, but leads me to wonder where they got it at. Did they just make up the fact that Shadow enjoys hardboiled eggs or that Cyan carries a pocket watch with family photo?

I can't truly recommend this book - it's an earnest attempt at a hint guide, but it's sloppily edited and organized, and the information the book contains does not merit its size or price. It actually might do more harm than good to gamers looking for a definitive reference guide, for there is much discrepancy between the game and this book; many places and items are called by different names, and the author is off on several major story points and plot developments. Though the boss strategies are solid, the equipment lists are incomplete, the photos are of exceptionally poor quality, and the walkthrough - the backbone of any video game guide - is cookie-cutter and not very thorough or specific. Though it makes much of its mammoth size - over 480 pages - I'll say now that over 200 of them are devoted to monster stats arranged in a space-wasting format; Nintendo Power's six-page monster chart is far more useful and efficient. If you're been through the game and are looking for more secrets, you won't learn anything new here (actually, most of the FF fans to whom I've talked have more fun pointing out all the mistakes the authors made); if this's your first time through, it's too stilted for you to rely on, and I'd recommend the NP and Prima Publishing/Peter Olafson books before this one. Best as a curiosity.

This book was alright. It was hard to undertand, and they used the Japanese names for most of the weapons. They also had a hard time spelling Strago's name correctly (Stargo, Strahgo). On the good side, this book had detailed map to the room, and wallpaper! The item and weapon info was excellent, but I needed another Strategy Guide just to complete all the secrets!

The main problem with this book is the translation -- the names given here for weapons/armour/etc. are different than the names used in the official translation of the game. Given this, it may be quite difficult to find what you are looking for. The maps are also quite difficult to follow.

However, if you're a true fan of the game, you'll find interest in the character and story information, and for that the book is well worth the search.

Where to start? This is the WORST guide I have ever seen. It gives no info on any secrets. It's in black and white. It makes up info on the characters. Judging from the thickness you would think it was quite detailed, but in reality it just gave statistics of monsters and listed the towns. Dreadful to read. This was a huge wart on the toe of game guides everywhere.

I own all of the published FF6 guides, and I have to say that this one is my least favorite. While it contains some interesting facts, such as a timeline of events that took place before the game and facts about each character's personality, it relies heavily on the Japanese version.

However, the main drawback to this guide is not the quirky translation but the dated style. It is black and white and mostly text, like some other guides from the 80s and early 90s. The maps are hand-drawn outlines that are too general to be useful.

Terrible. A complete waste of paper. Mostly lists. Claims to know the characters favorite foods, height, weight, ages, etc. even though the game never mentions that info. Says Edgar and Sabin are twins even though the game makes clear they were born a year apart. Incomplete weapon and armor lists. A walkthrough that acts more as a list of places. Recomends taking Gau instead of Cyan to Kefka's tower after it says high end weapons are better than magic. Can tell they picked Ragnorok sword over the shard. Get Peter Olafson's guide insted.

The writer's name is given as "Hayaku Kaku", which is most certainly a pen-name as it uses the Japanese words "hayaku" (quickly) and "kaku" (to write). That certainly explains a lot! The guide was quite obviously written using a Japanese version of the game, probably so it could be published in time with the English release of the game, but it means that their best-guess translation of some items, locations and characters could be confusing to some players.

Fun as a bathroom read, but better information can be found elsewhere.

The book was based more off of the Japanese version of the game, not the American. However, it does have a lot of information and statistics. It will definitely get you through the game.

I'm not even going to waste my time and give a reveiw, it is plain horrible.
