Book Description

January 1992
There are over 3,000 federal, state and municipal correctional facilities nationwide -- with over 250,000 employees.

- Department of Justice statistics show that prison populations have more than doubled -- to over 1,000,000 inmates -- over the past ten years.

- Record levels of tax dollars are dedicated to building new prisons -- and hiring new correction officers.

To deal with this rapid growth, local Departments of Corrections offer a qualifying exam for potential corrections officers -- typically, these tests are administered only once a year. With so few opportunities to qualify, applicants are highly motivated to make the most of their tests.

Now, test expert Norman Hall shows readers guaranteed methods for scoring 80% to 100% on the correction officer test. Hall analyzes every aspect of the most current versions of the test -- from reading comprehension to simple math to physical fitness -- and shows readers what they need to kn

2.0 out of 5 stars WRONG ANSWERS DONT HELP AT ALL!!!!!!!!!!!!!, March 17, 2002
By
This review is from: The Complete Firefighter's Exam Preparation Book: Everything You Need to Know Thoroughly Covered in One Book (Paperback)
This book is excellent in providing information such as formulas, scenarios and even mechanical aptitude. BUT, and its a very big BUT!!!!!! This book gives sample questions to each category it describes, then it posts the answers at the end of each sample question area. This is all great, RIGHT? Wrong!!! The answers that it gives to the sample questions are WRONG!!!! Okay...not all of them are wrong, but to have even one that is wrong is horrible. This book is supposed to guarantee at least a score of 80% on the exam or your money back. I found at least three wrong answers already in the mechanical principles area. Don't get me wrong, at first I was trying to believe that the book was right and that I was wrong, but after further reviewing and looking over the same problem over and over, I realized that they are wrong. One of the answers even contradicts itself. These are still good questions, so if you want to know what types of questions are asked on the test, buying this book won't hurt. But just don't rely on checking your answers with the answer keys at the end of each test. Have someone else who really knows what they are doing check them if you can. All-in-all, I am really mad at the people who were supposed to edit this book. They should give the lousy ten-dollars back to everyone who bought this book, regardless of their score on their exam.

1.0 out of 5 stars wrong answers, May 1, 2002

This review is from: The Complete Firefighter's Exam Preparation Book: Everything You Need to Know Thoroughly Covered in One Book (Paperback)
This book was a little helpful at best. There were so many grammatical errors, and just plain wrong answers. I would not recommend this book, and I think the person who wrote should have spent the money to have the worked checked. A mistake here and there... no problem, but this thing is riddled with major errors.

1.0 out of 5 stars Good information but terrible editing..., August 12, 2002
This review is from: The Complete Firefighter's Exam Preparation Book: Everything You Need to Know Thoroughly Covered in One Book (Paperback)
Unfortunately most of the practice tests contain errors in the keys and answers. I do not recommend this book.
