The Frantics were certainly not the most famous of Northwest Rock acts in the early sixties, but they demonstrate what gave the region its style: a mostly instrumental mixture of rock with elements of rhythm and blues and a touch of jazz influence. The Frantics were among the more conservative of the groups in that they could and did play in the older market as well as the teen dance clubs that were popular at the time. That focus results in several cuts that have not aged well. This compilation is a worthwhile addition for someone already interested in Northwest Rock. For the uninitiated, a much better introduction might be "The Viceroys at Granny's Pad."

I knew all of them personally. The sax player, Bob Hosko, was my big brother. He has passed, but his spirit lives on with many northwesteners. The Frantics were more than just musicians. They were great entertainers! Their NW beat kept them six nights a week at Dave's Fifth Avenue, located across from the Seattle Center during the World's Fair for over two years. They frequented Parkers and many northwest hot spots. The played backup for Bobby Darin. Later on my brother played back up for Chuck Berry in another band. This CD is a true tribute to the NW music history. Great music to dance or reminisce to.
