The Steck-Vaughn complete GED preparation is a complete 5 topic study guide for passing the GED.

You start out using this book by taking a self timed practice test for each subject. (You can do all 5 at once, or 1 at a time.)

You then "grade" your practice test with the answer sheet provided at the back of the book.

When you are done "grading" your practice test there is an analysis sheet for each subject that shows you what lessons you need to study based on your correct/incorrect answers.

At the end of each lesson, there are practice tests based on the specific lesson learned.

After you have reviewed all lessons in all 5 subjects you need to, there is a final GED practice test in the back of the book.

One of the great things about this book is they give explanations for all the correct answers and why one answer is more correct than another.

Steck-Vaughn also has Exercise books that go along with this book:
Ged Mathematics: Exercise Book (Steck-Vaughn GED)
Social Studies Exercise Book (Steck-Vaughn GED)
Ged Language Arts, Reading Exercise Book
Ged Science Exercise Workbook (Steck-Vaughn GED)

If you don't have "basic" reading and writing skills, you will struggle trying to use this book. I think anyone with a 6th grade reading level should be fine.

Complete Ged Preparation
I have been using this text to tutor adults in free GED classes for over a year. I like the format, clear and concise explainations, and the neat way study and skill tips are introduced in the lessons and at the end of tests. So far no one who has passed the practice tests in this book have failed to receive their GED certificate. I've looked at several other books and I am convinced the Steck-Vaughn products are the best on the market.

My son is homeschooled and will be taking his GED within the next year. This is the GED book used by our local school system. It is very complete. There is no question that when he masters most of this information, he will pass the tests. THis is not an easy book, it is challenging. I bought it here at a significant savings.

This book is the closest thing to the real GED test that you can get. I was very impressed with it and passed the GED with flying colors. It helped me to get a 99 in both Science and Language Arts Writing, and the lowest score I got was a 94 in Math. I would definitely recommend this book to anyone looking to pass the GED test.

This book should prepare one for the NEW GED, but the book itself is NOT totally new. The greatest changes are in the areas of math and writing, but even these pages are largely a repeat of Steck-Vaughn's old book aimed at preparing one for the l988 edition of the GED.Most of the publisher's hype about the book are unfounded. It, for example, is clearly not the biggest GED book available, despite that claim on the cover. And it most certainly is NOT the best. If you buy individual study guides for each subject, then you don't need this book. It is just a condensed reprint of the others.

I bought the book for a friend who was preparing to take the GED. She said it was very helpful in preparing. She was able pass her first 3 tests the first time.

This was the only study guide I had. I went through page by page in two weeks and passed the GED no sweat.

I am a teacher in a drug rehab clinic for teens. Often I have students wanting to complete their GED. This text is nice because it offers all GED subjects in one book. However, I have found that it does not fully explain the examples given. Especially in the Math section, it will give an example then move on to the practice problems without explaining how to do the example. My students usually need step by step instructions when learning how to do solve the problems, which this book does not always offer. I will say that the book does cover a wide variety of topics within the GED so that students are exposed to many different types of problems before taking the actual test.
