About the Author

Robert G. Wade was a chess player, author, journalist and coach. Born on April 10, 1921 in Dunedin, New Zealand, he won the New Zealand championship three times before moving to England in 1948 to further his chess career. He was an International Master and International Arbiter, best known for playing in high level tournaments, including one Interzonal, for winning the British Championship twice, and for writing more than 30 books, of which the most famous by far is this one, ?The Chess Games of Robert J. Fischer?, which was later reprinted with more games added as ?The Chess Games of Bobby Fischer?. His most famous games were his draw with Bobby Fischer (not many players ever got a draw with Bobby Fischer) in the 1965 Capablanca Memorial in Havana Cuba, in which Bobby played by telex from the Marshall Chess Club since the US State Department banned travel to Cuba, and his defeat of Viktor Korchnoi in Buenos Aires 1960 (Korchnoi won the tournament) his draw with Grandmaster Murray Chandler in New Zealand in 2006 at age 85.

5.0 out of 5 stars A game collection of the best American Chess Player ever, August 8, 2002

If you are a fan of Bobby Fischer, then there is no excuse not to buy this book.

Robert Wade lays out the most extensive collection of Fischer's games that I've seen. Many of the games are annotated, which allows the reader to grasp a better understanding of Bobby's playing style. And in my opinion, no one produced more magic on the chess board than Bobby Fischer. So playing through these games is sure to educate the reader on how chess truly can (and should!) be played.

I have owned this book for about 6 years. And it is timeless. I find myself returning to it year after year for some enjoyable reading and chess insight. I have spent dozens of hours including my own notes and thoughts in the margins of this book. I definately consider it one of my favorite pieces in my chess book collection.

4.0 out of 5 stars Good book, March 29, 2008
This is a great collection of Fischer's games. There isn't any anaylsis but that isn't always bad. I like the way the book is put together sort of like a tribute to Fischer. This is a reprint from the early 70's so everything is descriptive notation which is annoying to no end.

I like this book.
