I own dozens of Encyclopedias and this is the only one that I find user friendly. While it's not as detailed as the giant AHS books, the information is concise, consistent, and practical. Each page is dedicated to one species and is broken down by Features, Conditions, Growing Method, Flowering, After Flowering, and At a Glance which has a useful calendar outlining the planting, sowing, dividing, and flowering times. And that's only referring to the A-Z sections of the book!

Of all the books I own, this is the one I use the most.

I agree with what both prior reviewers have said about this book. I own approximately twenty gardening reference books and this is the only one I have found that tells you what to do with the plant after it flowers and when to prune it. My mother, who I swear has green arms as well as thumbs, also found this book very helpful and talked me into letting her take it home with her. Fortunately, I they still had it on sale so I could replace my copy!I also like that the cover is plasticized so that I can take it out in the garden with me.

I use this book a great deal, and my only gripe is that there is no listing for common names, so you need to know the official name of something to look it up, otherwise, it's a great reference because it gives helpful tips on when to sow, dig up or let be, also lots of easy to understand info on where to plant and what size it will be. I use this book more than any other gardening book I have.

I have read many gardening books, but keep returning to this one, as my, "Flower Garden Bible." It contains information on the care, propagation, and bloom time of most perennials, annuals, bulbs, groundcovers, shrubs, herbs, vines, cacti, etc. It is best for plant identification, and learning how to maintain the plants. It is not a design guide, but does have beautiful color photos of each plant in the book.

This book is a must for every gardener that wants to be properly informed about flowers.

I bought this after Hurricane Irene ruined this book in my basement flood. This was by far my most favorite book for garden flowers. In my opinion is a well put together book and has lots of information for the avid gardener. What I also like best is the visuals of the flowers, shrubs, bulbs, and climbers. Of course not just one book can include every flower in the garden, but it does a good job of it.

This beautiful book has lovely pictures, well written, easily explains everything you need to know and more. It was purchased from Goodwill Stores and I am delighted with the geat condition and fantastic, low price. I already have this book so purchased it for my son, a new home owner. I am extreamly pleased with this purchase.

I bought a copy of this book for my sister in law who just bought a home with a sizable yard. It has EVERYTHING you need to make garden beautiful and healthy. The articles are clearly written with instructions and the pictures are fabulous! Don't miss out get one today!

This book was difficult for me at first because it only lists the real names for the flowers and plants...not the common name in the index...However, moving in to a house that has over 5,000 differnt plants of all sizes, shapes, bulbs, roses...I had no idea what to do, how to prune, how and when to fertilzer etc...this is my go to book every spring and fall. And to find other things to plant as well...I would recommend it if you can get past not looking up common names
