I, as perhaps most people, had first seen Mr. Eyvind Earle's work first in the Disney film, Sleeping Beauty, where Mr. Earle painted most every background scene. I had always admired his work and of all the Disney films, this is probably my favorite when it comes to the design and colorful compositions. I was however, unfamiliar with his later work and pleasantly surprised to find this book representing the greater part of his last paintings (several hundred I believe).

The book comes packed in its own special protective box (I've added some photos to help you see your investment) and is quite large and heavy. The paintings are reproduced amazingly and the colors seem to jump off the page. The paper is very good quality and is probably the thickest, finest paper I've ever seen in an art book (or any kind of book for that matter). There are several poems, drawings, and Earle quotes sometimes printed on the left of the page and on the opposite/right, the painting is placed. It's quite a nice, uncrowded format, which allows easier and more enjoyable viewing of all the art. Also, the art never crosses the page, but each painting is completely represented on one page which is very important to me in that none of his detail is lost in the fold:)

As for the work itself, it is truly spectacular. Fans of animation production art will enjoy his style (His bold use of line and shape, his love of simplicity married with detail, and his explosive (yet completely skillful) use of color). But though Mr. Earle once worked in animation, his work is by no means reserved for animation lovers or students. His work seems to me, contemplative and quiet...gentle in a way. There's something quite hauntingly beautiful in much of his work. But enough of my clumsy words trying to describe this art. Check out samples at Gallery 21 on the web and look for yourself at some of his works. In short, I doubt you'll be disappointed with this book. It really is a treasure and something worthy of passing down generation after generation.

(Note: Being confused as to whether to buy this book or the book representing his earlier work (not easily found, but I believe they are reprinting it) I contacted a representative of Mr. Earle's organization and they related that of both books, this second one more truthfully represents the works and colors than the other, printing wise (though they recommend both:) So I bought this one and was very happy that I did).

This book is a masterpiece tome of a landmark influencial artist of style and color use, especially in the animation of today, as well as for film art directors or animators. ANy book this rich in style, will quickly become sold out, and surely, this classic will so get it while you can afford it.

Eyvind Earle images are best viewed glossy and well printed, which this book is. Thankfully, the publisher invested in the work, and the book surely will become a classic far beyond it's subject or visual delights, for it is itself, an impressive work.

I just received the book, presumably the one listed here on this page, but I am a bit puzzled. I noticed that there was THIS book listed here, and a Volume 2 (selling for several hundred), so I ordered this one, thinking that it must be Volume ONE, and it was cheaper as well. Well, I got a gorgeous book, absolutely stunning, but it's volume 2. The ISBN numbers match, so perhaps it is the correct book, just a bit curious why I paid so much less for it than the OTHER volume 2 listed...

As for the book itself, it is absolutely beautiful, heavy and glossy, and comes with its own large white protective box to keep it in. So I am pleased with the purchase, and lucky to get it for list price, seeing how it's now unavailable. Like I said, just a bit confused about how the book is titled.

This 2nd volume of Eyvind Earle is a beautiful book, at a great price. Very satisfied with the transaction.

This book is first class all the way around --- beautiful paper, faithful color reproduction and large enough format to feel the strength of Eyvind Earle's paintings. However, please note that the title of the book states it is the complete graphics from 1991-2000. He was productive during that span of years, but a vast portion of his work, and much of the best of his work, was produced before 1991 and, thus, is not included in this edition. I hope the people who produced this beautiful work will also produce a volume of this quality (and retailing at a comparable price) that encompasses Eyvind Earle's work prior to 1991.
