5.0 out of 5 stars A news journalist takes on Bible prophecy
Miller is a news journalist with a seminary degree, and he approaches Bible prophecy that way--as a reporter, not a preacher.

He doesn't try to sell us on pet theories, such as who will lead the Battle of Armageddon. Instead, he compares the top theories of top Bible experts. But it puts it in lively, entertaining prose. Even funny at times. There are lots...

2.0 out of 5 stars Not true Miller, you need to read the Bible for what it really says.
For the most part, I thought because of the presentation of the book and because of the year the book was published (2010) that this was going to be a good book to have. How wrong was I! Maybe I shouldn't have judged this book by it's cover... Anyway, the book fails to interpret the end time prophecies, simply because the author JUST DOES NOT READ THE VERSES OF THE...

5.0 out of 5 stars A news journalist takes on Bible prophecy, March 6, 2010
This review is from: The Complete Guide to Bible Prophecy (Paperback)
Miller is a news journalist with a seminary degree, and he approaches Bible prophecy that way--as a reporter, not a preacher.

He doesn't try to sell us on pet theories, such as who will lead the Battle of Armageddon. Instead, he compares the top theories of top Bible experts. But it puts it in lively, entertaining prose. Even funny at times. There are lots of pictures, maps, and illustrated charts to help make sense of the different ways of understanding the prophecies.

Miller covers the wide range of prophecies in the Bible. Prophecies about ancient Israel, about the coming Messiah, and about end times.

The end times stuff is especially fascinating. Some theories seem pretty far out, while others make sense. But Miller doesn't take sides. You can't really tell what he believes. Which is fine with me. It gives the book a balanced feel, like you're really getting both sides of the story. Or with many prophecies, more than both sides because their are many theories out there. Miller gives us a look at the theories, and the evidence people say supports them.

Stephen Miller writes not as a preacher or teacher, but as a journalist. The way he has put this book together will keep you intrigued and you will not want to put this book down.

His fresh style makes you want to keep reading and digging into other resources that he has quoted.

I would recommend all of his books to anyone who wants to really learn. His style will keep you involved.

When I was a kid, I was always afraid to read the book of Revelation or anything to do with the end of the world because I was so scared of it. Now that I'm older, I've realized that I had been exposed to some very specific theories about both the end of the world and Bible prophecies in general. This book sheds light on all sorts of theories and facts about the Bible. Even better, it doesn't take sides. There are plenty of pictures, charts, and diagrams, including a drawing of what hell literally looks like on page 329 (but it may not be what you're expecting). I heavily recommend this book, whether you know a lot about the Bible or not.

5.0 out of 5 stars The Complete Guide to Bible Prophecy, April 16, 2010

Fun read of Good Scholarship

I have other encyclopedia's of Biblical prophecy but Miller's blows me away. He discusses Nostradamus, the Greek Sybelline oracles, and deals with the ticklish matter of Bible prophecies that did not come true. There are pictures on almost every page and even-handed explanations of the various interpretations of Bible prophecies. There is also an excellent dictionary of terms, and subject index. I plan on using this book as a valuable preaching and teaching resource.

Stephen Miller delivers a difficult topic - biblical prophecy - in an engaging, witty, accessible style. His research is impeccable and the supporting evidence and photos compelling. Rather than arguing for one position over another, he presents the array of interpretations throughout the history of the Church and among respected scholars. This approach invites readers to be informed and to draw their own conclusions. Prophecy is usually a ponderous topic; here it is lightened and brightened by the author's respectful, open-minded, and faithful stance. I recommend it to students of the Bible without reservation. It's a valuable resource.

5.0 out of 5 stars Steve Miller has done it again!, April 3, 2010
This review is from: The Complete Guide to Bible Prophecy (Paperback)
Stephen Miller has once again written a book that covers the Bible in an intelligent, readable way -- in a book that is beautifully laid out and full of colorful illustrations. This is no paranoid, the-end-is-near rant or contrived twisting of prophecies to match history. Steve introduces us to the prophets as people speaking for God, their words and personalities intimately linked to the times in which they lived. He covers eschatology theories with an open mind, considering all of their possible interpretations. It's a surprisingly easy book to read, yet it's also surprisingly full of great information.

5.0 out of 5 stars Who knew??, March 26, 2010
This review is from: The Complete Guide to Bible Prophecy (Paperback)
And that's the whole idea about Bible prophecy, especially when it comes to the end times...nobody really knows! But that's no reason one cannot explore the leading theories out there. And Stephen Miller does a fine job of entertaining us while enlightening us. A very enjoyable journey through prophecies and predictions, no matter your predilection!
