There's not much out there on breast reduction, and this book provides one of the more comprehensive overviews that I've been able to find. If you're contemplating the surgery, the price of this book is a small investment to make to help you in understanding the emotional and physical aspects of the surgery and in deciding whether to proceed.

The book is just under 100 pages, but it covers the range of issues relevant to the procedure. Chapters include:

The discussion on the surgical procedure was very good -- explaining exactly what occurs during surgery. The discussion on the New You is also good and unique -- what to share with friends and employers, how the surgery may affect your outlook. There are photographs throughout that show before and after pictures -- and photographs that show how the breasts will be marked up prior to surgery.

I think the book would have benefitted from (1) more direct information about insurance criteria for reduction mammaplasty and (2) more detail about the specific measurements to be taken during the consultation. The Schnurr formula, based on body surface area, height, and amount of tissue to be removed, seems to be the standard used by many insurance companies. For some reason, neither this book nor most other materials written for a layperson contemplating the surgery provide any detailed information about the Schnurr formula -- but it often drives the insurance coverage question.

Overall, this is a good resource for someone contemplating the surgery. It would be useful to read prior to any meeting with a surgeon, so you have a better idea of what to expect during the consultation -- and if not, useful to read prior to the surgery.

Great Book! Very helpful in educating myself about the procedure I was about to undergo. Also saved me from having to ask some questions that I had because it went into detail to answer, and it helped me to know what questions I needed to ask. If you are planning this procedure or know someone who is this is a great book. Highly recommended.
