A Great Overview Of Kit Guitars,
By
This review is from: Complete Guide to Building Kit Acoustic Guitars (Paperback)
If you've ever wanted to build an acoustic guitar, but weren't sure where to start, I reckon this book should be the go to text. In fact I have a some great and more expensive books written on guitar building, only they sit on my bookshelf. This book's valuable information gave me a really practical way to build my first kit acoustic guitar. Now I've got two kit guitars going in my workshop and Bill Cory's manual is always above the bench as my main reference.
In this book Bill Cory has taken the guess work out of deciding on what guitar kit would best suit the prospective amateur guitar builder. His wide hands on experience also gives an informed insight into the FAQs, contents, quality of materials and pitfalls that can come with kit guitar building. He gives the lowdown on the right tools you'd need and some you can build yourself which is a real money saver. Another really great section is the step by step, photo by photo, overview of the building of a kit guitar. Set out in plain, easy to read and understandable language with so many detailed photos on almost every page, this book is a must have for anyone who wants to be able to successfully build their own acoustic guitar.

Execellent book!! Gives step by step directions which are right on. Refers you to other sources when needed for extra info. Bought the book directly from the author. He was kind enough to answer/clearify a question I had on "how to" on one step of measuring and constructing. He has built many beautiful guitars himself and speaks from experience. Highly recommend this for a beginner kit guitar builder(that's me), or to someone who needs more detailed info on building an acoustic guitar from a Martin kit.

Great Kit Guitar Information,

This review is from: Complete Guide to Building Kit Acoustic Guitars (Paperback)
This book should be the first purchase of anyone thinking about buying and building a kit-guitar. Especially for those inexperienced guitar builders or woodworkers.
After reading this book, I was much more comfortable with my decision for which company to purchase my first kit from. And, after receiving the kit, it is very helpful in the actual building process. The book can be purchased directly from the author. Just web-search the book name or author. DON'T BE SCARED-OFF by some of the outrageous prices you see from some sellers. Seek out the direct source. The author also hosts a forum for kit guitar building which is EXCELLENT! There are many kit-guitar builders posting questions as well as invaluable advice/tips for each aspect of the building process. Some of these folks are hobby builders at different levels of experience, and some are professionals in instrument repair and building. Best of all, it is a friendly bunch of folks, with a genuine interest in helping others succeed. Also, while I haven't purchased them yet, there are other books for kit-guitar builders by the same author, which are supposed to be very good. (This according to other kit-guitar builders, via forum). I HIGHLY recommend this book. |
